So, I just picked up a pair of Nudie Average Joes in the Dry Grey Coated. Really digging the fit and the fabric. For those not familiar, they are a medium dark grey with a bit of a sheen.

I'm trying to figure out what shoes to wear with them. Black works, of course, but I only own one pair of black shoes (not including some dress captoe bals), AE Taunton Chelseas, and I don't like wearing black shoes much.

I have shoes in lots of shades of brown/burgundy: lighter brown (Alden Indy), walnut (RM Williams Turnouts, Frye Brandos), cordovan (Alden Chukka, Red Wing GTs in black cherry), chili (AE brogue and Stockbridge split toes), etc. Which of these work well (also keeping in mind that it's Spring)?

I've worn pretty much every imaginable color with my grey jeans. Black, white, brown, blue, and so on.

I think they'd look great with teal, purple or a very orangey brown. Think of them as a neutral slate to show off your distinctive shoes on. Depending on the value of the grey (how "grey" it is and whether it shifts to white or black), black will be either a great or poor combination. I've some grey slacks in different values and some are great with black, some are great with brown. They rarely work with both.

With the grey pants, you'll have to put a bit of thoughtfulness into getting a good look, but I'm sure you'll be pleased!
