flannel pants will bag at the knee with time and also get threadbare in the knees and seat. My oldest flannel suit is 15 y/o, only one pair of pants, and I am finally replacing it this year. The pants looked worn for a long time but I didn't care.

Badge of honour.

Surprised it lasted you for 15 years though. You purchased an extra length of cloth for a second pair of trousers back when you first bespoke the suit?

Anyone have any experience with the mid-grey 13oz Fox Flannel?

I remember asking about the 10oz a while back and getting not-so positive feedback.

I have a DB from the 13oz. mid-grey and it is very nice. Certainly superior to the 10oz.

Thanks. If you have any pics handy, I'd really appreciate it.

No, I just had a high tolerance for worn out looking pants. But even that high tolerance was eventually exceeded, hence the "replacement" suit this year.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a charcoal grey cloth. I'm looking for a mid-weight worsted, but with a nice mottled finish (i.e. something of the visual interest of flannel, without actually being flannel)?

^ I believe Minnis Fresco has something that will fit that bill.

Thanks - not looking for fresco on this occasion (despite its Forvm approved status!), so any other suggestions very welcome.

Where would I find a glen plaid like the one in this pic from JCrew? Preferably a heavier cloth. More pics here if you need a closer look.

Edit: If it isn't clear from my original post, I'm looking for some fabric, not the jacket.

Sharkskin, nailheads, hopsacks and etc can fit the bill.

Harrisons Frontier is 300 grams. Compared to fresco, it is softer and smoother, has a less open weave, and has less variegation and mottling.

There was some discussion a little way back in this thread (post 6201 on) about a charcoal birdseye. I have a mid weight birdseye in darkish grey, from Smiths (I think) which fills the same role in my wardrobe as I think you're looking for. Pretty sure they did a charcoal too.

Some good pointers, thanks chaps. To add to my first post, I'm looking for something with a reasonable amount of variegation / mottling, but something smoother than fresco (and not open-weaved). Semi-solid fine, but not heavily textured. Am leaning towards nailhead rather than birdseye (& looking for something 'dryer' than sharkskin).
