^ IMO, yes. Maybe for tie #12 but if you only have 8, I think I'd like a silver / grey solid and perhaps a wedding tie of some sort before getting another grey tie.

    I bought this tie [IMG]

Other than a navy suit and white shirt, what other suggestions do you guys have? I have a navy and a light grey suit. What other shirt combo's can work?

^ Would think a very light blue shirt would work (either solid, end-on-end, very narrow stripes, etc.).

I have my first 6 Hobers and realized I havent posted them. Here we go, in no particular order.

    Navy blue grenadine
    Burgundy grenadine
    Charcoal silver grenadine
Midnight blue grenadine with white pindots
Dark brown Macclesfield with white pindots
    Grey prince of wales plaid

Looking to add a couple more. Most of my suits are solids - grey and navy blue so I tend towards a bit more action in the tie.

Maybe a nice grenadine rep tie (red stripe on midnight blue) and a houndstooth next?

Thanks again for the earlier guidance

^ Houndstooth is cool but not really necessary or a staple. You already have the POW for wedding tie duty. A grenadine stripe could be nice. I also think a dark green oxford / grenadine / neat could be nice.

Suits - Navy and light to mid grey
Shirts - Whites, Blue's, Pink, Blue stripe, Purple. Pretty much all colors

I don't wear suits to work or Sport coats, used for mainly weddings, fancy dinners, charities etc.

How many ties do you guys suggest I have and what colors? I have a few but I want to get my basics down

    Thanks archibald.

I am thinking about a green tie.

I am interested in folks' thoughts on these two Hober ties.

First is cashmere black war tie and second in Macclesfield silk tie.

Do you guys have issues where the knot doesn't really hold all day and you have to re tie?

    ^^ Nope. Don't think I've ever had to re-tie a tie midday.

I have bought a few solid-colour wool ties from the brand 'Pierre van Buck' at my local traditional men's outfitter. Generally, they carry awfully outdated garments, but these ties are fantastic. They make incredible knots, a perfect tapering from 3" to 1.5" at the collar (if measured flat), and best of all, >£20 at full retail. Such a great, low-key everyday tie. The only problem is that they are long, but I get them shortened by 4.5" to fit me. Anyone else with any experience of these wollen Pierre van Buck ties? I love when I find things that are inexpensive at full retail, easily available, and up to my standards.
