I got a pretty good deal on the tie below and can't decide whether I should keep it and try to work it into my special occasion wardrobe somewhere or just flip it on eBay. It's a Brioni in a abstract/psychadelic tie-dye stripe/swirl pattern with gold metal threads randomly woven into the fabric. I showed it to a friend and we both agreed it was a neat tie but it was a little ambivalent for us since we're both pretty conservative as far as tie patterns go (i.e. stripes, dots, and paisleys, no Talbott seven fold monstrosities). Just wanted to get the forum's opinions on it. [IMG]

I have kids, so to me it is suggestive of a vomited sundae with rainbow sprinkles. You asked, so I gotta say it's pretty ugly, no offense.

None taken; I find myself flipping back and forth between "hideous" and "neat" each time I look at the thing, which is why I ask. Lest my taste come into question, I'll add that the main reason I bought it is the price was enough that I should be able to at least recoup the value on eBay should I go that way.

IMO, no, unless you're older than I think you are, you wore flowers in your hair in San Francisco circa 1968 and you found this in your trunk. Seriously, can't imagine any suitable occasion for this item related to business, employment, or even a night out.

I have found that the word "neat" is the thing to say when "great" or "super" don't really apply, but you want to be polite. For example, someone you know professionally, but secretly loathe, brags uninteresting "success" they have had recently. You reply, "wow, that's, er, really...neat." I think you want to like the tie because it's a Brioni. But I think you secretly loathe it. [IMG]

It's funky. I could see wearing it to a 70's retro party or to a casual kegger post-race yacht club party, wearing it perhaps once every 5-7 years. I.e., the tie would be clutter in my closet and soon bound for the thrift shop.

Costume party, or some sort of college theme party like that; don't worry, no way in hell would I wear it to a job interview or a semi-formal. Anyway, I figure the reactions make a good enough point, although at least I hope the pic had amusement value.

I think the only occasion you could wear this tie would be at a Pollock exposition and you had on a pair of really "neat" glasses (preferably bright red). Other than that, I see you placing this tie in the thrift store box. Sorry if I was glib, just an opinion.
