Got my background check today. For the pain in the ass getting to the police station was, the actual process was unbelievably simple and quick, especially for a scandinavian country.

I filled out the (half sheet) application, handed it to the dude, and he handed me back a few pieces of paper in danish, I asked if that was a receipt or what, he responds

"Ah, you did say you wanted a piece of paper saying you've committed no crime in Denmark, this is what I'm giving you."

    Ten seconds to sink in.

"You mean I just fill out some paperwork and you hand me what I came for?"

"Yes, how do things like this work in Iceland?"

"They don't. Mange takk! Ha en godt dag!"

I was asked to go to a difference department and give a talk about what my group does. Really curious about the questions I get and what these folks zone into on what is important to them. They are a customer of our work, but a very esoteric customer so this should be interesting.

You only have to wait if there's something on it, otherwise it's painfully easy.

Was at the hospital/doctor twice today, first for a blood test, which normally takes half a day, just to get in, I was out the door within 5 minutes.

Later I had to get a test for my karpaltunnelsyndrom and the nurse started out saying, this is going to hurt, after a while she said you have a high pain tolerance, because normally people are crying, kicking and screaming and I was half a sleep. :slayer:

According to the little stick with the funny symbols and the ultrasound with all the stuff everyone else can clearly identify as a fetus, we'll be adding another lowercase G to the alphabet come spring.

    Teh fertility, I haz it.

    Thanks, guys!

October is just when the announcement is happening. We've actually known for quite some time now (we found out very early), but we recently got through the window where you don't tell many people, so this weekend was when the big announcement started leaking out.

So, I guess that makes me a knocking-up trendsetter!

    Congrats, man.

I realize you haven't done the baby-making thing, but that's a math fail.

are you orthodox joooesh? i ask because its an ortho joo thing not to tell people until the woman starts to show, whereas my non jooesh friends i have found tend to tell right away. maybe i just need more non jooesh friends who are having babies to even out my stats.

    Thanks!

I have to admit that I'm very impressed with myself. We agreed over the summer that we would just sort of not prevent it, and the next thing I knew I was an expectant father. It literally could not have happened any sooner after the decision than it did.

On the other hand, I was very much looking forward to months of "trying."

Not unless there's a pork-eating, redneck sect of which I'm unaware.

There was no prevailing philosophy for us when we decided to wait to tell people; it was entirely practical. As we did with LowerCaseG, we waited until after the end of the first trimester because of the attendant drop in miscarriage risk. I've seen how hard it is on people who jump the gun with telling the whole world, only to lose the pregnancy, and I didn't want that to be us. Prior to the announcements we've been rolling out over the last week or so, we'd only told a small handful of family (basically people we'd want to be there for support if something had happened).
