I can't think of a single person in my family who has lost their hair, including my great grandfather who lived well into his 100s. The good hair genes, I haz them.

Turns out it wasn't a scam, just incompetence. It was tied to the fact that I've moved relatively recently and there was some question about my address. The finance manager got back to me and basically said that it was for real, but there was no reason for them to have been calling me about it. He didn't know about it when I emailed because there was no reason to think they'd need to talk to me, so he didn't know to warn me. Either way, the finance manager dealt with it, and I shouldn't be hearing from them again.

My mom and dad both went through chemo and neither went bald. Both had their hair get a little less curly but still there. I think this fro is set for life.

I sort of hate to do this because it brings the thread down for a few pages, but...

...one of our neighbors next door has been undergoing cancer treatments for a few months. It is a recurrence of cancer she's had, I believe, twice now. The latest news is that the treatment is not working at all. She is going to have to try something else. Statistics show that 1 in 10 people in her position survive 18-24 months.

She has twin 6 year olds that play with our kid all the time; the girl in particular and my daughter are bosom buddies.

She and her partner until recently owned a small business that failed. Neither is employed at the moment; I honestly don't know how they're insured.

I cannot imagine what it must be like to deal with all that misery, to have to try to hide it from the children, to deal with it day by day. I'm terrified for what they are going to go through, the children included. It will no doubt impact my own family. I want to help, but I don't really think there's anything I can do.

that is terrible news douglas, really sorry to hear that. i think the best thing you can do is show your love and support. it goes a long way.

my parents neighbor of 25 years passed away 2 days ago. he was in his 70s, and he had been ill for a while. he was a real stand up guy, and we will miss him.

he used to spend much of his retired days just relaxing on his porch, and whenever we would ask him how he was doing, hed say, "so far, sooo good." i can still hear him saying it in my head.

That's really awful, Douglas. I hate those types of stories. So sad.

The TdF is bumming me out this year. In the post-Lance world there are very few Americans and that sort of pisses me off as it makes it clear road cycling was just faddish in the US due to Lance's success. Also my boy Ryder Hesjedal seems to have a broken rib from a crash in the opening stage. He's top 20 in the GC right now, but after his poor performance in the Giro, I don't hold out much hope for a podium finish for him. Too early to tell yet as they've not hit the mountains but that rib has to hurt when climbing.

    Yup.

This year its been sort of... meh. At least with the Brits they were so pumped for the Olympics that added some intrigue. Its funny, Versus, which is now NBC Sports Network, hasn't done shit to promote the narrative of this year's Tour and NBC Sports is the king of narratives in sports.

I used to love watching the TdF, but haven't followed it for a few years now. Lost interest during the scandal years and never recovered. :(

I have a small mole near my jawline (which is part of the visage). Well today I used a brand new razor blade and I was not as careful as I should have been. I feel like I must have lost at least a gallon of blood. I wish that hadn't happened.

This heat is wearing me down. I contemplated staying in the Adirondacks until tomorrow but returned today...mistake. It was 88 degrees in my apartment when I walked in, and the two A/C units have been running at full speed for 3 hours. It's comfortable, but not cool.

I am accepting defeat and retreating to my parents' house, where I will make love to the central air.
