Even if they're having some contractor come do the work, I'd bet a lot of the money is just going to other departments within the company (not the company replacing the lightbulb).

I get kinda pissy when I IM people and they don't respond. Even though I'm also pissy when all these fucking people IM me out of nowhere

It's a corporate program, what do you want from me

Although they recently gave me a webcam that apparently can be used to videoconference using the same client. Progress!

All of those chatting platforms are operated by the buttons on the user's microwave, so that is probably why you are unfamiliar with them.

Unless you're above 40 that's ridiculous. I IM alot at work thanks to Microsoft Communicator. Then there's Gchat (from Gmail). Facebook is okay.

I know AOL IM. My work blocks facebook, gmail and pretty much anything remotely entertaining.

we use jabber, so all the people in our different office locations can ask quick questions and what not. its pretty convenient, but kind of a PIA. it lends to people bugging people about stuff really do not need to and its a great way for my boss to bug people when he gets bored.

G Chat is the most invasive thing evar. Let me look over/purge my email in peace! I don't use it, but when I check my Gmail someone will start chatting with me and it could be my best friend and I pretend I'm not online, but that only makes it worse.

I also hate Skype and that fucking skype sound that happens when someone is calling you. it'll start doing that skype sound (even when I'm "offline" and I can see its my sister-in-law calling. I'll answer and she'll ask for my wife and I have to pretend that my wife isn't home. So awkward.

we have and use communicator, but I still prefer email because usually people will ask me the same stupid question more than once and I like the condescending nature of simply re-forwarding the original answer I sent them 3 months ago.

It's also useful for knowing when the boss is on the phone and not likely to come around [IMG]
