obviously not, but I don't really think a satin black leather strap goes with a textured navy dial that well, probably the worst of matches. Would you wear a black shirt with a navy jacket?

impolyte, i hated my speedy bracelet, but got a 1171 which is much less bulky and doesnt have those tacky polished links (same reason i dont go for the GMTIIC).
you can get a good condition speedmaster professional for around £1200 and the 1171 around £100. a bit more than you specified but it's worth it, one of my favourite watches.
also, if you don't take to it, you'll almost certainly get your money back if you flip it.

that's just the kind I am looking for, thanks. I knew a lot of the speedys weren't so dear, I've been seeing some old ones for like $4000 and I don't want one that badly. 1000 sterlings is reasonable and what i'd probably pay in Japan.

Took this a while back but it's still one of my favorites. Shot was taken with a 105mm macro on a D3 using 8in bellows in about 12 exposures. Frames were stitched together in PS. Watch is a Rolex Turn-O-Graph on Oyster bracelet:

Nice. Where can I find a strap like that? Looks awesome on that watch. Love the blue on blue.

Can any of you guys knowledgeable in repairs speak to this: I took my Oris and Seiko into one of the high end shops today to appraise service. They refused to service it stating that Seiko and Oris do not release parts to them and that all repairs for those brands have to be in house (sent back to them). This sounded like bullshit to me, since they use completely generic movements. Thoughts?

Given some of the pictures I've just seen, and although I don't need a third chrono, I think an Omega Speedy is in order as my prospective watch purchase...

i think its about 2x? but you its a daytona... the holy grail of rolex will never depreciate a penny.. while the speedmaster will be worth half the price you got it for the second you walk out of the store
