I am looking at the Unbranded 21 ounce jeans. UB221, I think. (I have large thighs/arse, so if there is a better choice, please advise).

Can anyone tell me if they are true waist size? I cannot buy them in person; only on line. My favorite jeans measure a true 34", and Gustin in 34" were very tight for a day, but in 2 days, fit perfectly.

What size should I get in the Unbranded 21 oz?

    thanks!!

    Hey, I know you! :D

I have the UB221 in 33 and 32. The 32 fit me best. I wear a 32 Straight or 33 Slim in Gustin. Be warned of two things though. It will take longer to stretch out the 21oz jeans than the lighter-weight Gustins, and if you do a cold wash and hang dry the UB221s the inseam will shrink almost 3". If you stretch the legs out while they are hanging to dry, you can keep the shrinkage to about 2". I mention the inseam issue because if you plan to get them hemmed, you should probably do a cold wash before you do. Well, unless you never plan on washing them, in which case it doesn't matter.

    Hey thanks!!
I am only concerned about the waist size as I'm only 30" inseam.

I should have backed The Twenty Six at Gustin!! At least I'm not certain about the waist there. I'm getting an 18 ounce from Gustin soon but I'd love a heavyweight now as I'd have plenty of time to break them in by next Fall! The us branded 21 ounce might be a decent alternative to the lengthy wait time for the Twenty Six!

I suppose it might also depend on where you buy them since I know if you were to get say a $X off coupon to Urban Outfitters to bring their price to lower the BluOwl/TheUnbrandedBrand/anywhere else, you might still get the old fit. My UB201s were old size and my UB221s were new size so that was....a full inch difference? I know you can buy from places that list measurements or at least which sizing (old/new) their stock is, but UO had no clue that sizing changed a full size up.

    The Unbranded UB321:

For a true waist 34, it says to buy 33. I am still thinking of picking up 21 ounce jeans if I find a good deal (ebay?) while waiting for Gustin to come through with another Twenty Six offer.

My question: Will Unbranded stretch out a full inch the way that my Gustins did? I could only button the top button of Gustins when they arrived, but within 2 days, they were amazingly comfortable. I understand that the unbranded will not be the quality of Gustins, but I am wondering about the size. Under 100 at ebay.

    thanks!

They stretch a bit but they shrink in the wash - especially the leg - quite a lot..

Definitely don't size down with 21oz jeans or you'll be uncomfortable for 2 years!!

If they're your size and $100 I'd kop them immediately before somebody else spots them - good find!

I hardly ever wash my pair so that they soften and become comfy again.

I'm curious about Gustin jeans - lots of SF members seem to have them, but I've never seen them in the flesh!:)

    Thank you, Hirsh.

The Gustins are something special. By week's end, I will have my third pair in, and am awaiting my fourth; this from a guy who had a year ago all but given up wearing denim!

As a 34 true waist, do I get an actual 34 waist in the 21 oz unbranded? I am torn, as I may likely wait, spend the extra money, and try to land a Twenty Six from Gustin.

Usually I'd go for Unbranded, as the sister company of my fave Naked and a Famous.

However now I know a bit more about Gustins - being doing my homework!- I'd say save a bit more and go for the better quality jeans.

Unbranded 21oz are a steal - I paid far more than that for my custom 21oz Kurabo pair, but Gustin 26oz sounds incredible!!

Please save and post pics for me to drool over..

Planning to break my own jeans ban yet again this morning with Yoox...:)

It would be just like with Gustin, if you measure some good-fitting jeans and the waist is 34, than you would probably want a 33 in Unbranded UB221. There is an Unbranded sizing guide on their website I believe. On the Blue Owl website they measured a bunch of pairs in the store and posted the measurements. For the 33 waist the jeans measured 34". On my pair of size 33 they also measured 34". After a cold wash and 15 days of wear, they stretched back to about 34", maybe a hair less.

Blue Owl lists the size 34 UB221s as measuring out to a 35.5" waist.

This is what they used to have listed. I haven't checked the sites since earlier this year.

Thank you for posting. I wish they used true to size. My favorites go a bit past 34 so would it be wiser to go 34 in unI branded 22 ounce instead of 33?

I'm not good with sizing advice, only posting measurements.
I'd say it's a fairly good bet that the size 34 will have a 35.5" waist, since that is what Blue Owl found when they measured a bunch. You can definitely shrink them with a cold wash and throw them in the dryer for a little while. I don't know how fast they will stretch back out.

For 22oz denim, I wouldn't go too tight...

My 21oz jeans (bought July 2012 and worn regularly) took ages to break in.

I'd go with the 34, as heavy denim is very different to wear than regular denim!:)

I have been looking at the 22 ounce Unbranded due to price and that it takes so long to get Gustins.

Today the Gustins in 18 ounces arrived and they are awesome. The 34 waist was tight, but in just the three hours I have had them on, they are already loosening up. The quality of the denim, the stitching, etc...it is really something special and it helps me understand why people pay so much for denim while others pay $25 at Walmart.

I think it is likely best for me to wait for either the 23 ounce or "The Twenty Six" from Gustin, even though it is more money, and there is the wait factor. I don't have a local store here that sells Unbranded, and I know my size well with the Gustin and love the quality. It's not easy buying fit sight unseen. I did this with The Shoe Healer 3 times over the past year and had great success, but others have struggled, going back and forth with sizing. With Shoe Healer, I had no problems with the initial returns, as their customer service is awesome, but it could have been a tough go. Once I got well sized and knew what last was best, I stuck with it, with Richard being a great help.

Here where I live, I cannot get good jeans, nor good shoes without driving a number of hours, so it is not like I can simply try on jeans (or shoes) so when I have a trip to Boston, for instance, I try on lots and jot down notes. Boston is a once a year thing, however, due to work, family, etc. I just do a lot of shopping online, even for household items. Amazon Prime is great for that. If I were able to try on the Unbranded locally, it would have been a huge help. I may pass on the Unbranded 22 ounce on ebay ($98 total) as I am not sure which size to get. I may wait for the Gustin.

On the other hand, the pictures of Unbranded from ben2t are so appealing. He looks great and as others have said, there is no surprise that he receives compliments. This thread is really helpful and I express my thanks to those of you answering patiently.

Gustin jeans sound great - I'll check out the Gustin thread, and it sounds like you definitely made the right decision!

However $98 for 22oz Unbranded sounds like a great deal - as a heavyweight denim fan I'd say kop them if you can...I paid more than that for both 19oz and 21oz jeans!!!

Enjoy your Gustins and have fun fading them!:)
