They havent caused any issues. Left foot is a little wider than right foot. They are not uncomfortable.

How well does Vass do croc? I understand many consider Vass to be of great value, does it hold for croc as well?

How different is croc from calf in terms of durability, thickness, or care? Is the price different for a MTO pair that is full croc vs a calf-croc combination?

Thinking of order my first VASS: a pair of Austerity Brogues Gold Museum/U last/Single sole/Size 40. I'm a smaller US 7D (like 6.75D). Any advice before I take the plunge?

No idea, but if you're looking for a friendly exotic, their sharkskins are very nice, and different from what the Brits do. What I've seen of Vass's is finely-grained and lighter weight, so very comfy even in the summer as well as being less conspicuous than many sharks.

As far as I know they don't stock croc so would have to order it, but they do keep shark, ostrich and caiman. I'm told caiman isn't as resilient as croc or alligator - just not as strong between the scales - but with a bit of care and moisturising at reasonable intervals, no reason it shouldn't give some good service. It's a hell of a lot cheaper too, of course. Change from $1500 with trees and fees.

The real problem with caiman is the boney "inclusions" in the center of every tile. They are brittle and the leather can crack there, esp. if the creases run through the middle of the tiles (how couldn't they?).
