what Vass has in it's stock is pretty random. Most people don't seem to understand that Vass is not a large commercial operation like e.g. EG.

Vass is much closer to a traditional artisan, you have to take the time to develop a solid relationship with the Vass people if you really want to get the best out of them. This takes time, but you will be rewarded with the best RTW shoes anywhere at very low prices.

Otherwise it is much better to go through one of the established proxies and take the risk of receiving a shoe without trying it on.

I like Vass a lot but I'd question this. Didn't they just open they're 3rd retail store or something? Also they make shoes for many other brands.

Ugolini RTW. Awhile ago someone posted a pic of a bunch of shoes from an English shoe company (can't remember which) that looked distinctly Vass-like and had the same trees.

I wouldn't be surprised if many brands on the japanese market are rebranded Vass.

Nothing wrong with it, and yes it's still a relatively small business, but the operation is large enough to have multiple retail outlets and business ventures running.

Ugolini designed the F and U lasts (not sure about K) so I'm not surprised if as part of their arrangement he gets a certain number of shoes to sell RTW. Or perhaps he also uses the last which is why shoes like that in the shop. Not sure and that's all speculation, but would make sense.

I thought the arrangement was for Vass to make Ugolini's RTW line or have I got that wrong? It was for another brand wasn't it?

Possible. Others here would likely know more specifics. Assuming that's the case I imagine they would have been doing that for years even before SF got into Vass so quality shouldn't have lapsed recently.

It was this pic i posted here in March. Vass-ish shoes at the AS factory in Northhampton. The trees look like Vass/Berta.
the Norweger, 2nd bottom row, left, looks a lot like the Vass style.

still curious about the provenance and/or arrangement AS may have with Vass, and I was surprised when G mentioned Vass was moving to Goodyear welting.

I checked my own recent Vass and they're all hand welted FWIW

Agreed, but would you agree that the shape, colours and designs, coupled with the fact that it's called the Budapester collection, as well as the Berta trees indicate a high probability that the shoes are indeed made in the Vass workshop?

In another thread here on SF it was stated that Vass made a RTW run for Ugolini's brand especially for retailing in Japan. Haven't been able to confirm it one way or the other. But it seems a realistic possibility.

Yes, that is the origination of the Ugolini, or U, last.
