I've tried dabbling in Greek wines--mostly red. I usually can't pronounce the varietal names (Agiorgitikitikotitkaotgio) or the places of origin (often I'm not even 100% sure which is which) and it's surprising how much of a crapshoot it is. But sometimes you can score something really quite good for $20.

Opened this as we (tried) to replicate my favorite Tuscan fall meal; pici w/wild boar, porcini's in a ragu style sauce. Can never make it as good as the real thing. Great bottle, not what I would consider a 'true' Tuscan as its more cab, but none-the-less a winner.

That sucks. Although I've never bought from winebid, I'd be weary of buying wines that old on winebid... I'd probably stick to wines <15 yrs old.

Winebid is actually pretty good about provenance, at least in my experience. I've bought ~700 bottles from them over the last fifteen years or so and the number of tainted bottles I've bought that were 'off' for reasons other than TCA is probably less than a case, and that includes wines going back to the early 70s. You always take some risk when you buy at auction, but I've had a very good experience with Winebid.

I think there is always a risk of buying old wine. I recently opened a bottle of 1990 champagne that had lost all its effervescence and I was worried that it had gone bad. Fortunately, it was still pretty tasty, though probably post peak.

Anyone on here try the 2010 Maison Sichel Margaux from Full Pull? I was planning on hanging onto mine longer, but wanted an indication of the quality given today's offering of their 2014. Having not tasted the 10s and also the fact that 14 is listed for the same price I paid for the 2010s makes me want to pass unless someone who's tried it convinces me otherwise?

I did not try the 10, but I did bite on the 14 as I have a soft spot for Margaux.

Had this on Sunday. What a great wine for about $18. 60% Sémillon, 5% Muscadelle, 35% Sauvignon Blanc. Very full bodied, clean, just enough acid. Had it with some spicy Thai chicken wings and some veggie sides.

I wish! No, current auction on Champs at Hart Davis Hart. Thought given the season some might be interested. I've got an 04 Salon and some less expensive stuff like A Margaine and Pierre Peters ready to go.

The same producer also makes a Graves Blanc (Chateau Graville-Lacoste) that is very good and a pretty good value at $2 more a bottle or so. He also has a Sauternes property; I've never seen anything from that, but I'll buy some if I ever do.

Kermit Lynch really is the man.

WinEx has the largest selection IMO-

    My recs would be-
    Thivin
    Thevenet
    Foillard
    Lapierre

of those, I think KL only has the Foillard
