You've got to have a net worth of over 15 Million or be a pimp to wear that to a black tie event.....

So the tie weighs 57 ounces. If 5% of it is gold its melt value is like 80 bucks. Now I'm gonna melt it

Bros, I'm about to take my mom on our very first cruise, ever! I think there's gonna be 2 formal dinners. I'm gonna jussay fuck it! Gonna rock a blazer and odd pants with a tie with a pair of brown lace ups or should I thrift some cheap tux?

Tux. I think a select few can pull of being maybe one level of formality below the dress code.
Is it formal (white tie) or semi-formal (black tie)?
I'd hate to be that guy who "didn't get the memo"

    If semi-formal:
Tuxedo in black, maybe midnight blue.
    Shawl or peak lapels
    Tuxedo shirt with studs
    Waistcoat or cummerbund
    Spit shined opera pumps!
    Silk hose

Definitely tux, but seeing as how you'll be on a cruise you might consider a white dinner jacket as well. I wore it's opposite number, a burgundy velvet smoking jacket, to a formal ball last weekend as my tuxedo jacket no longer fit and it was very well received.

No, bad barrel! Only black bow tie with black tie. Maybe dark burgundy if you're wearing a white or cream dinner jacket, but that's the only exception. And yeah, black shoes too. Opera pumps or failing that plain-toe bals would be ideal, but you could honestly get away with cap-toe bals or even a sleeker plain-toe blucher. I don't have a fantastic picture to hand from this weekend, but this one should at least give you an idea from the waist up:

The burgundy jacket I actually bought from @jebarne and the black bow tie came from @AlexJ1100 , the shirt's about $20 from eBay and the vest was another $35, the bathing pin-up girl braces were an ethrift at $25 thanks to a head's-up from @drlivingston , the pants were more expensive since they're part of a tux (but I bet someone here could hook you up with some tux pant orphans dirt-cheap), the stud set's a christmas gift from my uncles, the hankie's from my grandmother's estate and the shoes were just my normal interview captoes spit-shined for the occasion, pair of C&J's I found on eBay for around $100. Only thing I bought new were the silk hose from JAB and they ran me about $10. If you need a pair of formal braces, let me know and I can send you a pair, could probably scrounge up a linen pocket square as well. Heck, if you're a 10E shoe I've even got the opera pumps for you since they're a tad too wide for me.

German army parka that at first looks black, but when you look closely you can see that it's a camo that's been dyed black. Hard to photo

Saw a really old Burberrys sweater and some other cool looking stuff I didn't buy. I couldn't tell if the gucci shoes were real and they were about a size too small anyhow so I left them. Found a bunch of Zegna shirts designed for a trex with like size 30 sleeves I left.
