So day 2 of my thrifting career, a little gun shy after buying a lot of stuff I will probably have trouble flipping. I convinced my 12 year old son to come with me by bribing him with Indian food for dinner. We talked about what we were searching for beforehand, I gave him a few names to look for Hermes and Zenga to keep and Arrow, Tommy Hilfiger, Stratford to discard. He was more into it than my wife was yesterday. We searched the entire men's section, found some interesting stuff. Being trigger shy now, I settled for 3 items leaving some Florsheim zippered ankle boots (they were made in India) and 3 Zenga ties.

First Item was a pair of earrings for my sons teacher who is an Eagle's fan:

The other 2 items were a couple of ties, I grabbed them before I even knew who made them because I thought they were beautiful.

Anyone know anything about the Chanel, it is in perfect condition as far as I can see? I see a bunch of ugly Chanel's going for several hundred dollars on ebay. Is this real or just idiots overpricing them? I thought my son would choke on dinner when he looked these up on my phone. Should I send up the Spoo signal, would he deign to show up for a newbie? He did step all over my post 69999 with his super 50 suit/sc post... [IMG]

Derby day thrift fit. 2nd place horse ruined what would have been an epic windfall for me on the trifecta & superfecta, but Derby day is always fun regardless.

Always amazes me with some of the crap Ralph Lauren sells, they also bust out some awesome non-black/purple label stuff. Coolest find of the day and NWOT (still had the tissue paper covering the zippers) [IMG]

Still trying to figure out the correct description of what this is exactly....
Edit - As close as I can find - Retail was prob close to $500! [IMG]

Ha, come on man. It looks real to me, good find! That pink is made by Drakes too, it seems.

Yup. A group of us regulars sit and shoot the breeze a lot. Nice to get some social time in while thrifting. We all notice the big time flippers and I heard from a lady who lives near by and is there most every day about this haul. I know of at least 10 clothing flippers and about 15 flippers of misc. stuff. Most are pretty cool. Knowledgeable and we share/trade stuff with each other. However, there are several who are very aggressive and talk to nobody.

    :wow:

I love the 100 Mile garage sale! Went every year for the past 7 years except for the past two. Had something going on last year and the weather was awful this year. Looks like that coat made the whole trek worth it! There's a small church in Red Wing that participates in the 100 mile sale every year and I found a Thorens turntable there about 5 years ago for like $10.

It's been super slow here lately. It would have been another bust today if not for me stumbling across these two lamps today. I grabbed them because I thought they looked cool. Later on I ducked into a corner of the store and looked at them a bit closer. I pulled off the shade and saw this:

Made me curious. Flipped it over and then saw this. :bounce2:

Still haven't figured out this iPhone thing yet so I waited till I got home to research them. My eyes just about popped out of my head when I saw the retail price on these.

I just got a little dizzy, like the time I met Bill Gates at the MS campus... I just had THE SpooPoker reply directly to my post [IMG]

I kid, I kid. I have been very impressed with all of the help you give out Spoo and that was the reason I decided to give away a few System Wide Upgrades to a member here. You guys sacrifice a lot of your time helping others. I realize it isn't all altruistic, but a big part is and I really like the community you guys have built here.

Now my problem is, I love this thread so much and it inspired me to go thrifting and now I have some stuff and no idea what to do with it... My wife is nervous that I am going to take over an entire area of the basement. If anyone is interested in anything please PM me (Post 69999 has day 1's stuff).

    Couple finds.

I think someone found this before. Eazy?

    Chipp mooning Santa tie.

BOO shirt for summer. Lightweight crinkly tagged XXL but fits me perfect. Yay inconsistent sizing.

Yes, the labeling looks very similar to the one I found Spoo, how could you tell it was made by Drakes? Granted, mine said Made in Italy on the material tag, so mine wasn't Drakes. But just curious.
(Also, I know this isn't the right thread necessarily, but I see a great deal of variance on sold items. Seems like some are worth a LOT, and others more modest -- sort of like Versace, I guess. Is there a way to tell the really desirable ones from the not so?)

Luckily, you've got a whole community here of similarly minded folks who would love to trade with you. Check out this thread:

Caution: As you've no doubt already noticed, we can be quite picky. So don't be surprised if some of the more common stuff (e.g., PRL and Brooks Brothers) doesn't get snapped up. But keep reading and keep shopping.
    Edit: Oh, DIBS 42R!

Nope. Someone found the Chipp Santa pooping tie. We had fun creating a subtitle for that one. I liked "WOW, someone's been REALLY bad this year."

I went to a Basenotes meeting today and discovered that an op shop find I had a few months ago was far better than I'd ever imagined.

What I'd found was two almost full bottles of after shave for $5 each. One was Chanel Pour Monsieur, the other was Dior Jules. I only took them along today to ask the experts if they were fakes, and get their opinion of the condition. They were all ecstatic over the Jules, which I found out is long discontinued and impossible to find anywhere, at any price. Both scents are in perfect condition. One attendee the founder of a local parfumerie, was absolutely ecstatic about it, saying he hadn't smelt Jules since he was a very young man, and it brought back a heap of memories for him. i gave him a sample of it, and he was thrilled.

Nataku - DAMN! Nice score on those lamps!

Gmmcl - Its drakes per this label :

Drakes used that label before they moved into this one :

..and PS - back to my 50+ unit haul, I went back to the scene of the crime yesterday and raided it even further. 10 macclesfield pocket squares, 60s BB made in england cummerbund, ll bean norwegian sweater, 10 more wacko tweeds for fall, isaia for Paul Stuart suit, two of the most caddyshacklicious FU bananas amazaballs pants that you have ever seen in your life, from the 60s or 70s. Some more bespoke stuff from the 70s and 80s, 8 Turnbull & Asser ties, a rare (to me) Chipp "Chippmunk" emblematic tie with crocodile heads, 3 made in france 100% cashmere scarves, double faced silk/wool macclesfield scarf, bunch of BB suits, etc etc etc. theres that.

Bought an amazing and bulletproof tweed jacket from J. Press yesterday. MTM, dated 1953. Haven't shot any pics yet, but I'll try to share them here.

I am from Denver as well. I've notice a lot of my favorite shops go in waves. They will have a ton of great stuff then nothing for two months. What area are you guys in?

As for the tie: Do you mean the "handmade in england" tag? I think that is on the Thomas Pink tie, though. Or is it something about the Channel tag that says "Drakes" to you?

As for the haul, Holy hell! Congrats. PM incoming....
