new kicks from JCrew, not too bad for $354.38.......I was a little suprised to have then show up in a white JCrew bux as opposed to the usual green Alden box. Whats up with that?

Nice looking boots! Love the NST and the Trubalance is extremely comfortable.
I had considered those guys very carefully before ordering the wingtip boots below. Today is their maiden voyage.

I have to say the service at Epaulet was great too. Can't hurt to publicly praise good service! Will definitely buy from there again.

How easy are whiskey longwings to get? I am deciding between cigar boots and a whiskey longwing right now. I am thinking about getting the cigar now and the whiskey for the spring, but if whiskey longwings are rare, I may just get both now.

After that, I'll just need black to complete the Alden rainbow of colors

Great boots! I ordered their last pair of 10Ds yesterday. Does anyone know what to use on this type of leather to water proof and condition?

I LOVE the shine and the reflection of light on them. Fantastic! Speaking of great and impeccable service I think that Alex at customshirt is top notch as well !! Well Done !!

ok, who's polishing your shoes and what are they using?

no amount of brushing can make mine shine like those

^ +1 Never mind the Mac Method - we want the GaGa method.

I dunno, comparing the two whisky pairs posted back to back, I think I like Mac's "flawless glow" instead of gaga's high shine on those particular shoes.

O'Connell's is not to be underestimated. Their pricing is very aggressive, and although their service isn't quite as over the moon as Alexander Kabbaz's (CustomShirt1), the rest of their clothing is more realistic -- sweaters you would actually want to wear, for instance, rather than put in a museum because of their exorbitant cost.

Quote: Depends. A neutral boot cream (Alden makes a fine one) will allow them to age as naturally as possible; I do this with my Chromexcel, plus Montana Pitch-Blend for waterproofing. If you're looking for a more uniform color plus waterpoofing, Pecard's leather dressing is the way to go. If you use Obenauf's LP, it will waterproof but will take the distinguishing look out of the natural Chromexcel; I don't recommend it in this case.

I just spoke with Kathy at Alden DC to order the Cigar cap toe boots. I must say, customer service over the phone was great. I look forward to future orders with her. I'll throw up some pics when I get them. These are going to be my default wet weather boot for during the week...

I received the Plain Toe J. Crew boots. The 11 is too big, so I'm exchanging for a 10.5. Hopefully that fits, and I can get to wearing these. If they're too small, it wasn't meant to be. Quality, upon a quick glance, seemed sufficient. I don't think they are $500 shoes, but for <$400 they appear to be a nice purchase.

Question: does one shoe ever fit slightly differently? Upon trying on and walking on carpet, the left shoe felt perfect. The right shoe felt a little uneven, little imbalanced. Natural? Suck it up?

These are perfect. Love the 270 welt (the 360 kills it on such a fine, suit-worthy boot).

Thanks for the tips. I do have the Montana Pitch Blend. I'm new to this whole Alden thing - what is it with these boots/shoes? I feel addicted already! I saw a truck this evening and my first thought was "Color 8." Sheesh...

I'm going to guess the argyles are Marcoliani. I'm a fan myself, particularly of the wool version. Oconnells is a great source. Prompt service.
You can get them elsewhere onlIne, of course. And I bought some in the Alden SF store as well as a men's store down the street from it (the Hunt Shop, perhaps). Anyone happen to know who sells them in Chicago?
