I soaked the Vamp of my jcrew pair (in my true barrie size) with a wet towel a few times while wearing casually, and now they are my most form-fitting pair. The water welts took a month to go away through.

Option 1: welt style changes the fit of a shoe (across the vamp it seems)
Option 2: there's something weird about the J Crew boot (at least some shipments)

Which do you guys actually think is more likely to be true? This is the only instance I've ever heard of people claiming that a storm welt, versus a flat one, impacts fit - yet Alden offers most of their styles with both welts. :nodding:

I owned the JCrew PCT for awhile.

That was quite awhile before I got my Barrie size squared away. And, I found the boot to be TTS.

Matter of fact, I got a better fit of the PCT boot in a 10D than My WT boot in 9.5E.

I think it has to do with the lasting process.

I recently tried on the Alden for JCrew color 8 captoe boot (perf tip) in my regular Barrie size. It fit like my other Barrie boots in the same size.

    Friends,
I hear from many folks on the forum that Alden doesn't do restoration jobs on shoes that have been resoled by another cobbler in the past. I wanted to ask the knowledgeable people here if they would know whether Alden would restore shoes if only the heels were replaced by a cobbler n the past but the sole is original Alden.
Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

    Hey DV

Those are AF27, part of the Plaza Last series of Alden Fan shoes. The date on the back of this photo is April, 2000:

Amazing group shot DV! The cigar's are a great olive tone.

I think it's a matter of how your foot is made up. Alot of people claim it's more snug, some people claim it fits the same way. I'd be curious to know if this is in the toe box, heel, etc.?

It has been my experience that Alden will recraft shoes even if they have been resoled elsewhere. Be advised, at $165.00 your shoes will not be as good as new, but Alden can do more than your local cobbler--e.g. recork the midsole, replace the welt, put the shoe on the original size last for resole.

I have three pair that have been back at least twice, and all of them had been resoled elsewhere between recrafts at Alden.

Kahuna - Who are your #8 NST's coming from? I just bought a pair of #8 Tankers with black welt and edging / commando soles from Alden SF. I'm on a waitlist for a pair with antique welt & edging - picked these up for the interim.

    Thanks Mike--

OK definitely NOT my BB LHSs. Mine must be on Van. Don't much care for the Copley in navy suede...

    Your sage knowledge is appreciated...

I have the J. Crew PCT boot as well as a few other boots on the Barrie. I fall into this same category (hope you're doing well, sftg). The J. Crew fit just like my other Barrie boots.

That is a great pair to hold over with..i ordered from Context...antique edging and commando was able to order a 12.5..I got the jcrew indy #8 during the sale to hold me over but have not worn them yet.

Deciding between keeping the jcrew cap toe #8 or the Indy
