I just finalized a purchase of the Ravello PTBs that Papa Doble had in the marketplace. I couldn't be more thrilled. I'm trying to decide if I want to topy this pair. I did topy my 975s, but I'm not sure if it was the right call. I'd love advice.

I live in an urban environment free of significant moisture. For the forseeable future, the shoes will not be worn in rain or other harsh climates, but what is an issue is the roughness of the streets. I do a good bit of walking around as I live in San Diego's downtown, and the sidewalks and streets are pretty freakin' rough around here.

On a rare/special shoe like these, would you topy them?

I love data (I know, huge nerd) and rather than collecting responses in replies here, I'm wondering if you guys would be willing to respond to the poll embedded below. That way I can see the opinion of more than just the few posters willing to reply to me. Forgive me if this is either inappropriate or hopelessly lame.

The closest is the "stock" cigar chukka. I own both the LS CXL chukka and the cigar chukka. I recommend them both.

I was fortunate enough to grab a pair from O'Connells in cigar shell that look pretty damn close. Not sure if any of the Alden factory stores are doing cigar chukkas tho.

The Factory stores, including the one in your hood, KW, are still doing the Cigar Chukka. Just call the factory shop and ask to get on the order.

Thanks, the stock cigar has a brown welt right? Contacted Leather Soul and of course they do not stock my size 12 on the Barrie(really 12.5 but I do not get picky) - Emailed and they said it could be special ordered and take a year.... How is your LS Brown CXL aging...I prefer it to stay similar to what is pictured and not change to some other darker shade.

I think asking if you should topy your shoes is too broad of a term to ask, and get accurate answers. My answer would be yes with the following:. I suggest you use Alden Leather Defender on all of your shell footwear, specially lighter colors such as Ravello and whiskey. I do it to all colors of my shells. It's not a permanent protection, but does well to protect against spots from rain and potential stains such as spills from food beverages, or even splatter from taking a whizz into a urinal. A fast spray and wipe down with leather defender every time you take you lighter colored shells outdoors is cheap insurance. So far it has not caused any color change, nor has it let me down. It also causes a really shine to occur temporarily. Just my 2 cents, no doubt others will chime in. See Ya, Steve

I am rocking the 4 eyelet King PTB today.
Note the difference the lighting makes.
Harsh office lighting and natural lighting in shade. Both this morning.
