It is all about dimensions and proportions. I don't know what size you are in the Barrie last and what are your body dimensions, but generally, I would say that as LWBs have the double leather soles, the proportions look off to me with tapered pants. This all depends on your definition of "tapered" though. For me, tapered means <15" openings.

Personally, I don't wear LWBs period as I am a tall, slim person with larger feet, so the proportions never look right on me. The tapering with larger shoes makes me look like I am wearing clown shoes.

Yes, very nice casual shoes. If you haven't owned the Leydon before just beware it's narrow last - I had to size up a width from 13D to 13E. Also, I would contact the Shoemart to see if they have any irregular 2nd's in your size, as they often have them in the 13D list I get. Just an idea.

Mosly all of my trousers have a 16" bottom, max. I am an 8D in Barrie and I don't think it looks off at all. I don't know how much more tapered you are speaking of, though. For me the smaller bottom opening the better. I have big thighs and calfs so I can't go too skinny with my trousers.

My trousers have 15inch bottoms and I'm an 8.5D in the barrie.

I would presume when people wear tapered / skinny jeans on the barrie last, the proportions are even more contrasting.

I'm a 12B on Barrie and my trousers have a 17 inch opening. Anything less than that I think would look too skinny for my frame.

You guys area really breaking things down pretty granularly. I don't think that any suede PTB or LWB (no matter what last) will look bad with some good fitting chinos (cuffed) with or without some nice socks. Heel really isn't a big factor, unless it' super bulky.

unreal. just a year ago the #4 chukkas I lost out on went for around $1,100. I can't believe its doubled.

I have a pair of unworn Ravello LWB's that I am likely going to sell. I wonder what they would go for...

MrDVs shoe pics are particularly appealing because he does appear to wear bottoms with more narrow openings (and apparently, no break ... but perhaps this is a function of his posture while the pic is taken?).
