Sorry if I caused a rehash of an old subject. Cigar and #4 were shades I totally ignored in the past. Cigar just seemed too dark and muddy of a color compared to #8 or discount Marlows. And at this point, the cost is too high for another pair of casual Aldens when I prefer Edward Green for dress shoes.

I had mentioned the same thing not that long ago. 1k Alden shell is upon us...when you figure in trees the number is $850. One or two price increases away. It will be interesting to see where the tipping point is. I would guess for exotics that number is different than standard colors. Alden can likely get 1k for some small runs of grails but beyond that it is questionable IMO.

I think its closer than you think. I bet if push came to shove I could turn around and throw these Cigar captoes BNiB on the Bay and get $1,000 or over. Maybe I am wrong, but I don't think I am...

It seems like many on this thread have no issues with ponying up $700 plus for Aldens. Bully for them. Personally, I started to balk when prices broke the $600 threshold and the gap between #8 and rare colors jumped.

I like Alden, a lot. But you know something is fishy when RL unloads shell shoes for ~$300 recently that have a retail price of $850. And the shoe mart can unload shoes ("irregulars") far below retail, as can other big retailers at sale time.

Shell cordovan is spectacular. But the retail price is steep and accelerating with what seems like ever-rising demand.

The $1,100 Viberg shell runs sell out immediately.
I would agree that it will be happening before long.
Some of this demand is due to the increase in demand in the Asian market.
I definitely see more Instagram shoe traffic from Asia than anywhere else.

So, it seems like going first on Cigars is likely going to be impossible. Any recommendations on a first shell? I'm leaning towards the cts in #8. And then eventually maybe hopefully snag them and or LWBs in Cigar/Ravello

go with JCrew #8 PCT boots but you have to wait to get those as well since most of the sizes are out of stock.

Quote:I have no problem ponying up $700+ for shoes and boots that I love and will wear often. I wouldn't pay $800 for a pair of whiskey Indy's because I wouldn't wear them all that often. But I would pay that much for cigar boots (obviously) because I will get good use out of them. Purchase price versus satisfaction is very subjective.

Why are they called Atoms instead of Short wings ? Never knew there was a color 4 of these. Gorgeous. Re: Leffot.. While they do have an online presence, they're such a small boutique I still consider them B&M. Kathy from DC told me they still take names down verbally and place in a spreadsheet, old school. That screams of all the potentially issues of human error when it comes to inventory, not the logistics powerhouse that I associate with a Walmart. Leather Soul is also a B&M boutique despite their website. I still feel your pain. I got into the shoe and shell game a bit later than others here, so I'm kicking myself when I see a shell that may not come back for another decade. I wish Alden would consider Comipel and Hermes tannery.

IMO, stitching makes these boots perfect for casual wear.

Too bad no commando soles on those. I'd scoop up a pair for a color 8 boot to accompany my color 8 Indy. Better choice than the WT I think. More versatile.

I may not get a call for the cigar CT boots, but if I do, this will be one expensive (birthday!) month. Eyeing the brandy shell service boot from Viberg set to drop in a couple of weeks. That might push $1100.

    *sigh*

So apparently two pairs were made in 8D, and I'm #3. If one of you out there decides to pass, please let me know.

Why does this patience thing have to be so difficult? :brick:

I spoke to DC yesterday, as I was #4 in line on the list for the Cigar Boot in 10D. They fulfilled the size order to 4 and mine are in route to me now. It's a shame the factory wasn't about to fulfill all order in all sizes.

The cigar boot is $762. Shipping was $15. No sales tax for me.

If you want a similar style with commando, check unionmade. No perforation and 360 welt (not 270) but on Barrie with commando. I'd buy if I didn't already have the JCrew.
