    Cigar
    975
    saddle

This give you the most diverse color selection and eliminates the two LWB's with antique

+1, by substantial I take it you mean heavier, supportive, stable, etc... I absolutely agree; I prefer the oak tanned traditional (JR) double leather soles for this reason.

Yeah, I pretty quickly came to the same conclusion as you guys. The opportunity to preorder the cigar from Alden NYC makes this an easy choice.

Does Alden us JR soles? Heard it mentioned a couple of times but haven't found any support elsewhere.
Also, Jos A. Bank shoe trees are $8.50 with free shipping right now. I know these have been mentioned by other forum members in the past but the thread search function is maddening and I can't located any comments. What is the verdict on these in both quality and cost?
Cedar shoe racks are $11.90 as well.

Really hoping that the J Gilbert 6 eyelet #8 with commando sole gets confirmed by Alden. I know they requested it some time ago. It would probably be one of my most worn pairs if it happens.

I have several pair from Jos A Bank and can't tell a difference fom other brands including Allen Edmonds or those from Leather Soul.....as a follow-up questions, does anyone size down on trees for suede shoes such as LHS, PTBs or chukkas?

JAB trees are literally the same trees as AE trees.
JAB racks are literally the same racks as AE racks.
They are all made by Woodlore, which happens to be an AE company.
The prices above are almost criminal.

Regarding the question posed, I do not size down on trees.

According to BNelson, the answer is yes for Alden's shell models.

DBC, thanks for the PSA on the JosABank sale. Just picked up 2 racks, after judging from the pic that they are the same as my AE woodlore racks. Thanks as well to zippyh, who pointed out the rack extenders that one can use to elevate racks to accommodate stacking for multiple boot levels.

Guess this means I can continue with the boot-buying spell. Speaking of which, is the following a sign of excessive desperation or a creative stop-gap measure: Instead of praying for a cigar wt boot, I've been considering either buying the AE dalton in chocolate calf or inquiring to see if there is a cigar-like shell that I can have done MTO. Other than the Haight chelsea, I've never bought AE boots. Is this recommended? Or should I simply sit tight and keep fingers crossed (especially because I can get the consolation prize of a brown cxl wt boot in April from AoC)?

Blaming extra room in shoe racks for additional Alden purchases: yet another flimsy excuse to be scoffed at by our significant others.
