Even in the last picture with the close up I had to strain to see to what you were referring.

That looks much less pronounced than the creases you will have in the shoe by lunchtime. Those shoes look great to me. I hope you like wearing them.

Easy - all of them have flat, 360 welts

Welts are not my area of expertise, but I think this is right:

There are three kind of Alden welts on Goodyear lasted models

    Flat, 360 welt
Reverse stitch or "storm welt", 360 degree
Reverse stitch or "storm welt", 270 degree

The 270 degree version connects to the sole around the heel ("close heel"). This is a good example:

Where a 360 degree version looks like this
    http://www.contextclothing.com/item.php?id=1524

Google any of the captoes for pics of a flat welt

From what I have read, there is no real functional difference between any of them; they are all aesthetic ("storm welts" were originally designed to better keep out water/moisture, but I doubt the Alden storm welts retain this function) and have no impact on durability/resolability

^ Hrmm, isn't the JCrew boot 270? Not sure about a few of the others, though most are indeed 360.

    mrclemson,
your shoes look great. be careful with this thread, its worse than the epaulet crowd. a couple of months here, you'll end up with 10+ aldens.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, you are correct haha. Fortunately (for my wallet), the exotic shells are harder to come by these days. [IMG]

I am on the board of directors for a non profit youth mentoring program, and I just got an email about the family we (the board) are sponsoring this year for the holiday.
The two children asked for sheets and comforters... and a few cheap toys.
Here I am stressing about getting a rare color of a $700 shoe.
It reminded me of how we have to be grateful, and put things in perspective.

    Sorry... Had to share.

^ He wasn't seriously offering you less, just saying he'd be tempted to buy but cannot justify spending the money.

I read it as the other poster was assuming that you secured the jcrews at the discounted rate that a lot of SFers got. so if you were going to return them, he'd be interested at the discounted price (plus shipping I'd imagine)

    just my .02
