My first pair of Aldens was this Alden for J Crew tobacco LWB. I highly recommend it for a first pair of Aldens! Shell cordovan will cost you another $170-200. If you are not sure that you want to spend $700 for a pair of shell cordovan shoes, I would recommend looking for the Tobacco LWB new with box on ebay. You might find it for about $350-400. If not, order a pair online with J Crew and it will cost you about $500.

Be forewarned though, this may start a very expensive habit! My gateway Alden...

    Good luck my friend...

beautiful whiskey guys. I recently picked up a pair of Rider Captoe Whiskey boots. Not Alden but one can only hope Alden can make something similar soon. Edit - swapped laces for Alden waxed :slayer:

But shouldn't they? Like you I wanted some brown shell so I purchased my first pair of AE shells, the Leeds PTB. I liked them so much I purchased a pair of shell Dalton's a month later. Prior to purchasing the Leeds, I never even went to the AE website when shopping for shell, only calfskin. Not anymore.

Nice pickup Namor. Love the shade of whiskey and the paper-thin commando. Looks like they will move easily between dress and casual.

These look great, but you can really see the difference between shell finished by Alden vs another manufacturer. Nothing else has that same kind of shine like shell finished by Alden, so the finish on these looks kinda flat in comparison.

Bespoken, it's just the boots lately that have been getting to me. I am so obsessed with boots at the moment. I just wish I was addicted sooner. How often do you hear people say that?!!?? HAHA

"These look way better in your pics than they do on the Unipair website."

I was pleasantly surprised with the look. Also, I didn't think down a half size on TruFlare and a wider E width would work for me, but it seems about perfect. I have a more neutral pronation, but with the number of overpronators out there, I'm surprised this isn't a more common last in the US. Unipair has been great to deal with.

So, where do I find whiskey and ravello PTBs and longwings? Given what I have read about these so-called "exotics", can I expect to find them at all?

I see that, for example, Citi Shoes claims to have them in all sizes. But do they really? Or is it some form of infinite waiting list I am signing up for if I order from them?

In all seriousness, you need some luck. It also seems to depend on your shoe size. If you are a common size, they get snapped up first as they typically only get a pair or two in each size. You really need to get yourself on a waiting list.
