E does a waterlock sole as well. However, there's something different about how it looks. Their version is almost more plastic-like.

Thanks, I just sent Nick V. a PM with the same question. I'd likely have him do the work anyway.

I've seen other mfr's offer a waterloc type sole but haven't read about a cobbler offering a similar aftermarket product. My old Wolverine 1Ks had a similar oiled sole. This also begs the question, how do flexwelt/waterloc equipped models like the 1494 unlined chukkas differ from non-flexwelt models? Does the flexwelt refer to just the waterloc sole or are there other differences?

I believe you're right. I think it is a JR waterlock. I have them on a couple pairs of my boots, so far so good.

B Nelson does offer a waterloc outsole. I've had it done.

SFTG, not surprising that you've had some first hand experience. Thank you for your help.

No I mean a picture. Like side by side of both of the shoes (from the top down) To see how much wider/etc the Barrie is.

I wear 10D in barrie and 10.5D in the AE 5 last. Hope these pics help you...

The length should be about the same but the barrie is clearly roomier. The heel and arch are certainly wider in the barrie. However, be careful as the storm welt will give the barrie an even wider appearance. Half size down usually works for most. Good luck my friend!

Individual preference but as an owner of commando style chukka's I am very comfortable dressing mine up. The sole is subtle and not at all chunky.

Probably my favorite pair of Alden boots right now. The speed hooks give them an edge over my cap toes, not to mention how well the Barrie works in non-formal situations.

TSM has a ravello NST boot up on its website, for anyone who wants exotics.

edit--no sizes available, sorry for the tease.

It has actually been up for quite a long time. It appears, at present, not a single size is available in the ravello NST boot. It would be nice if that was not he case.

Glad you're happy with them, and they look like they fit you much better than they fit me! The search continues for me to find something similar...

two months back, I easily ordered that ravello NST in my size (11.5barrie/12plaza, cant remember what size I got), but it had unappealing marbling across the front end of the shoes. had it not been $700+, I might have lived with it. but for retail pricing, they went back..

that plus my jcrew ravello debacle [IMG] doubt I'll ever get another pair in my hands

Does anyone know what this shoe is? I could not find the model number when I searched in google. Looks like possibly a CXL Tassel? If so, I wonder what retailer offered this when?

    Edit:

Found it. CXL Tassel. H. Stockton, Atlanta, GA.
