wonder if any of you can offer some sizing advice. What makes it difficult is international shipping & customs which makes returning not possible.

I am considering suede chukkas, and i have the option of Leydon or Barrie.

I have no experience of fitting a Leydon, only Barrie.

unlined shell PTB 8.5D is a *perfect* fit
lined shell LWB 8.5D is *ok*
lined calf All weather w/crepe is *ok* in 8E - the 8E is a better fit lengthwise than the 8.5D mentioned above but is a little looser in the heel, although not enough to initially cause any slippage.

    My questions are :

If i went with a 8E Barrie in unlined suede chukka, would the chukka form provide more or less "heel grip" than the 8E calf w/crepe All weather Walker
.........- or would i be better off going for an 8.5D Barrie?

If i were to go for the Leydon, from the above info do you think a 9D or a 9E would be best? I *tend* not to require a wide fitting shoe, but in running shoes it is quite common for me to find many running brands (aspics, brooks) to be too narrow. Nike's (which have a tendency to be a litte wider) fit best, mostlysize 10 or occassioally 9.5 depending on the model.

    thanks in advance

The unlined suede has plenty of give to it. I went TTS on my 1494s. They fit very well. That's Leydon last by the way.

Just got shipping confirmation on my Brooks #8 LHS I grabbed back during the 30% corporate sale. The Van doesn't work with my instep, but I'm optimistic the unlined version might fit differently. Fingers crossed.

I think they fit different - word is the BB LHS is on the Copley last. I also went TTS when I bought the BB LHS (vs. going down 1/2 size with the Alden LHS).

The unlined version, from what I could tell, actually fits a bit tigher than the lined version

I have made the Van last work by going up a width from 9.5E to 9.5EE. IIRC, you are a 10D, so I would investigate a 10E if you have a high instep.

Way to rain on my parade guys.

Whenever I've tried an E width, the heel fit gets sloppy. Sizing down in length and up in width isn't for me. Either the last is right, or I'm destined to not wear that shoe.

Based upon my sample space of one, I found that the unlined version fit tighter than the lined one too.

Epaulet #8 which appears to be Cigar in any but the brightest light (and flash).

Great images of a fantastic shoe!!

I can't get enough of these Alt Weins. A blucher semi brogue in shell w/light edge trim is a great set of details, making for a unique makeup. Epaulet hit a home run with these! I wish I noticed them when they had a full size run. It looks like they've already placed a re-order on the color 8 version and have other leathers in the pipeline.

I've been waffling on these. If what you say is true, I might have to pull the trigger. Zipp, I'm assuming the plum color comes out more when they crease?

    That's my assumption.
I'm pretty sure you need them.
Buy or buy not; there is no waffling when it comes to Aldens.
