How exactly did this Alden thread end up in the Streetwear and Denim portion of the forum instead of the Classic Menswear portion of the forum?

Uncle-you continue to amaze me with make-ups I've never seen. Is this an MTO too? Do you have any secrets on how you get a shine like this, other than the Mac Method we know about? Stunning come to mind!

    See Ya,
    Steve

I think the original thread starters were mainly looking at Alden for boots to wear with denim. Compared to Allen Edmonds, which is seen as a dress shoe company, more people do seem to wear Alden shoes casually. That said, a lot of people in this thread mainly wear Alden shoes with suits, chinos and wool pants, which would seem to be Men's Clothing.

You should really reconsider Color 8. It is the king of shell.
The exotics are appealing, yes, but Color 8 is the king..

Are there any care products that get resounding support for Aldens?

I have a pair of Chromexel 403's, and want to keep them up and possibly improve their waterproofness.

I feel like asking this question is the same as the "what oil should I use" question on automotive forums.

Alden San Fran uses and recommends this for Chromexcel -

Saphir Reno isn't the best for chromexcel, IMO. You need something more oily.

    Thanks!

Are there any other shoe care supplies you all can recommend, while I'm at it?

Montana Pitch Blend if you want to make them more waterproof but note that it may darken the chromexcel a bit (but less so than Obernaufs).

For the first pair, I'd go with the more versatile cigar.

I found some beat up aldens at a thrift shop tpday - does anyone know if the black "piping" (not sure of the correct term - the black material that goes around the top of the heel and runs over the eyelets and down to vamp) can be replaced. It's the same part of the shoe that cracks if you dont' use a shoehorn.

    thanks!

A question I ask every time someone makes a compliment about argyle socks or loose, pleated pants.
