To be fair, while "rare" shell is rarer than it used to be, retailers seem to still be able restock models like LWB, PTB and chukkas on a semi regular basis. In 2013 we have seen cigar Indy and PTB, whiskey LWB and chukka and ravello LWB and chukkas all restocked.

Got them at Alden San Francisco. They even have a cool little San Francisco stamp inside them.

Agree about the commando. It is barely noticeable, super light and obviously provide great traction. And thanks I can't wait to try these out on the streets!

Buy them up! I'll probably be using 2013 to stock up on a variety of #8 models, while waiting for the possibility of brown shell in 2014.

Sounds like a good plan tommyhk... Not sure I've ever seen a color 8 shoe I didn't like. [IMG]

+1 for Robert. Also nice Indys!

If what you say is true, maybe that explains their smug attitude about the defective whiskeys mentioned earlier. Explains, but not excuses.

They [retailers in general] said the same thing in August/September about Ravello, and 3 months later hundreds of pairs of Ravello shoes left the factory. I guess only time will tell.

Part of me hopes they are wrong, and we see a glut of brown shell this year. Another (though small) part of me hopes they are right so that my wallet can take a breather...

I admitted previously that I shamelessly check out everybody's shoes in public. I see a lot of chukkas on the subway, never any Aldens though. They just aren't my style, and the fact that everyone else has a pair on makes them even less so.

Not offering my opinion because I think that it is particularly important to anyone, but just thought when I read your post that I'm not surprised that you get a lot of compliments on your chukkas, since everyone in NY seems to wear them, and yours are likely much nicer than most.

Chukkas are a popular style in the general public in NYC, but they do get some criticism here (particularly the Barrie lasted cordovan ones). That's all fine. We like different things about our footwear. I think suede chukkas look sharp while cordovan chukkas show off the cordovan glow really well. The fit can be challenging though. To each his own

No love for the Chukkas tonight...what's great about Alden is how varied people's styles and collections can be. Even a #8 boot on a Trubalance or Plaza can look like a completely different shoe, well, to us at least :) I am a huge fan of the Chukka. For my style I will likely own 3 pairs of shell Chukkas before a LWB. I love all the pics I see of the LWB but I always try and keep perspective of theoretical use vs. actual use which is admittedly extremely tough for me to disnguish sometimes on here, especially with the recent combination of Argentino and snapseed!

There's a bit of history with those damn J Crew ones. Back in August of last year those went up on the J Crew site. I ordered a pair. Only problem was they were the wrong pics and the product I had ordered was a brown suede Indy on red brick sole. Funny thing is the pics they had back then were much better and I think fairly accurately showed the color. They updated the images to the red brick sole Indys soon after. At lest J Crew is an easy return. TBH, I probably would have returned these too if the color matched that kind of light snuff that they show today. I was looking for the lighter tan suede.

If you're ever on the subway wearing your Alden chukkas and get the nod of approval from someone who looks about 30 years to young to be wearing tassel loafers, you'll know who it is.[IMG]

Then again, IIRC, you have a pair in Ravello out for restoration? I look forward to seeing pics of them when they return.

Just saved my Dad $200 bucks on a new pair of Unlined LHS from BB using the 30% corporate discount. Got myself a pair of Mocha Kid Suede Tassels. We'll see how they look in person, they might be too flamboyant for me. However, I've never bought a pair of Aldens and then decided against them on arrival.

Edit: Looks like they may have left them up on the website, in case anyone forgot to add them to their cart before midnight.

Worked for me too. $455 for shell, and I happened to have ~$300 in BB gift cards. :nodding:

Kinda hilarious how most of their cordovan sales at midnight (when the discount shouldn't even be applicable) are from members of this forum. Thanks to the poster for clarifying the sale info, cart biz.

I went back and forth on this. I may call to inquire tomorrow, but at least online the LHS was not available in my size. So, I went with what might be an unconventional choice on this thread: the #8 cap toe blucher. On the formal end of the spectrum within my needs, but assuming sizing works out, I think they could be a nice addition.

Sounds like you have it figured out, but for anyone who's struggling, here's a post I made recently describing how to resolve issues with the BB corporate discount.

A rare selection indeed, share pics and wear in good health!
I had to call them today to get it sorted out. Turns out my card expired, had it renewed with my new zip, and had to make a new account on their website since they redesigned it a few months back. They told me you have to create a new account to add the card, not sure if thats true, but they said I couldn't add my renewed card to my existing account.

Edit: as you said in your post...

A good reminder to myself to READ BEFORE POSTING!
