I know the wedge sole will never get any love around here, but I'm a fan of the reverse tobacco chamois and these Unionmade Otis Indy Shoes are better than expected.

Can anyone recommend a belt to buy to wear with my Alden Indy Boots 403's?

This one's pretty cool:  http://www.epauletshop.com/servlet/the-1161/Hoof-Pick-Bridle-Leather/Detail

For a shoe/boot as casual as the indy boots, it doesn't really need to match.  As long as it's not black, in my opinion.

on a similar note, i need an expert shoe man in LA

on my chukka i am experiencing that annoying thing where the stitching is coming out at the area where the two parts of the shoes connect.
i need all four sides restitched and reinforced.

anyone know of a truly excellent cobbler? Otherwise I will just wait and take them to b. nelson in a couple of months when i visit nyc. i'd prefer not to have to wait though, as i love wearing this particular pair.

You can always mail it to B. Nelson; I even think there might even be a pre-paid mailing slip option on the B. Nelson site.

closerlook, which two parts? Are you talking about the stitching attaching the quarter to the vamp? If so, you can probably take them to LeatherSoul in Beverly Hills, because this is an Alden quality control problem and they'll send them back to Alden for repair free of charge. I've taken two pairs to them for this problem, only one of which was purchased at LeatherSoul, and they gladly handled both.

Last time I took a pair back, the Alden rep happened to be in the store and explained that the problem was caused by their practice of burning off excess bits of thread after stitching was complete. Some employees held the flame to the stitching too long, so not only was the excess thread burned away but the main thread holding the quarter and vamp together was singed and weakened, and it would break after a couple wears. This happened to my recently purchased LeatherSoul chromexcel jumpers.

Anyone have any comments or suggestions with comparing Allen Edmonds' PTB (Burgundy Shell Cordovan Leeds) to Alden's color 8 PTB? Are they of similar comfort and fit? I realize both use the same shell cordovan, both have double leather soles, and both have cork beneath the footbed. Is the AE Leeds a nice, similar alternative assuming you find the right size? I've found several for nearly $200 less than the Alden 990. Thanks in advance...

I have both shells (AE Bradley; numerous Alden color 8 shells).

The shell is sourced from Horween for Alden and AE, but the finish applied by each respective company is quite different. The AE's will eventually morph into a brownish-burgundy, where as the Alden's will stay a much truer burgundy throughout, and, depending on the specific shell used for your pair, may even have hints of dark purple. Alden's will be much shinier.

So, in large part it depends on what you are looking for. For me it's not even close - go with the Alden 990 (or the Alden for BB PTB in color 8). :nodding:
