Talked to a sales associate at The Shoe Mart to see if they had any interesting shell since I missed on the recent #4. Nothing special in my size, but they had (11 E) Black shell cap toe, #8 chukka and a black PTB at the seconds price. Also had a 11.5 #8 cap toe that was really tempting. $399...nice. Ask for Shawn

I hope was hoping to get some opinions on my next purchase. I'm wanting to get a dark brown Alden wingtip boot with a commando sole. I could get Alden of Carmel's AF84 Dark Brown Calfskin boot, but I've never seen how this leather looks in person after it's been worn. I'd be insterested in a Brown CXL wingtip boot, but all I've seen is Leathersoul's with the regular sole. I already have their Ultimate Jumper in Brown CXL that I'm gonna need to have resoled with a commando sole, part of me wants to find a pair of their CXL wings and have it resoled as well. Would CXL Jumpers and CXL Wings be redundant? One pair would probably go sitting if I had two in the same exact color. How does heir normal brown calf's character stack up against the CXL?

No idea... they may have given it to me because I bought from them last year and they took my name down and promised to call me when the sale came back. I didn't actually get the call, but who knows?? Sorry I couldn't help...

i really need something with a commando/lugged sole for the snow when i go to sweden next week. the only thing available seems to be the Kudu, but the vibram seems a bit too rugged for me, or the chamois from shoemart. anyone have experience with a chamois indy boot? how do you treat it? durability in the wet?

Alden NYC stocks a chromexcel captoe boot on commando soles... I don't have any experience with Kudu

Love the thick wale cords. A staple in my winter wardrobe as well. I have always admired your personal style as much as your O/S shines.

    Seven,

Would it be possible for you to post some pictures of yours? I am considering getting on J. Gilbert's preorder list but would like to have a better indication of how they look on the Plaza.

    Thanks,
    Jason

J Gilbert/Alden of Carmel does I believe, as well as some other nice shell makeups on commando.

    those look great, Frank.
Don't you have a pair of #8 beefrolls from Rancourt as well? how would you compare the two?

I do indeed have the #8 beefrolls from Rancourt.

The two loafers are different beasts (aside from the different strap). The Rancourts are really much more casual, unlined with a softer construction in the toe and in the sole (no Goodyear welting). The Rancourts come across as being much more of a handsewn shoe to me. Once broken in, they are like wearing slippers. That's why I like them.

But I also like that, while the LHS has the hand stitching on the toe, it also has a more substantial feel with a high toe box that I think is going to stay that way from the photos I've seen here.

    I really like them both.
