Honestly, I really covet the black shell cap toes from BB. I have no idea why-I am not sure anyone needs black shell. For some reason, for me, they are like the average looking girl you can't stop staring at. (Yes. I am thinking of getting help.)

Necessary, no. But, sometimes I like the look of a black shell PTB with denim. The biggest problem is that once you have a black, calfskin shoe that is as boring as can be and only mildly comfortable, you'll wish it were shell. :satisfied:

i feel like black is the one color where i might slightly prefer the calf version, even though i own a pair of black captoe shell boots

With the whiskey indy being posted I wanted to chime in and add that I agree that these whiskey indys are fantastic, but also add that they show why the machine stitched toe on the shell indy is superior to the hand stitched toe. The machine stitching allows the shell the rolling effect that shell has when it is stepped in, which is something I think we all appreciate. The hand stitched toes on the shell indy boot don't look nearly as good when creased as I think the photo below shows: [IMG]

Different strokes. I would personally only want a hand stitched toe.

I'd also note that those Indys you posted are more creased than most shell Indys I've seen.

Two questions, and I hope that I get some sort of response!

    1. During the vid that was posted earlier with the gentleman washing his brown suede chukka's, after finishing, he stuffed them with newspaper, as opposed to placing shoe trees inside.

Is there some sort of advantage in using paper, as opposed to the trees?

    2. Also, outside of Shoe Mart, do any of you know of where I can order some large sized kicks, size thirteen and fourteen Alden's, online?

    Thanks a bunch!

I'll leave the second question to someone else. To answer your first question, you would want to stuff your shoes with newspaper, or some other highly absorbent material while they are soaked with water. Your shoe trees are not capable of absorbing that much water. Trees (especially cedar ones) are adequate for absorbing lighter amounts of moisture, such as perspiration after wearing. After the bulk of the water is absorbed from another material, then you should place your trees in the shoes to ensure that they finish drying in proper shape and form.

Nuts. Why did the new Unionmade black pebble LWB have to be on a crepe sole? Exactly what I've been wanting only in double leather or commando.

That brown and loden pair is also compelling, but I have no idea how I'd incorporate it into my wardrobe.

Why oh why did alden ditch machine stitching on the Indy cordos. I would buy 3 different pairs instantly. This coming from a previous owner of hand stitched cigars.

The crepe sole on those Longwings would be great if the welt were black (similar to the Leffot version)

I've said it before. The crepe sole is a deal breaker for me - everytime.

Crepe sole would be acceptable if the shoes are not so darn expensive.

same. i would never buy a crepe shoe. i would have purchased both Leffot LWB Alpine Grain's, in black and brown, if they were on double leather or commando.
