I've been told by several retailers that Alden will not permit retailers to advertise runs of rare shell. I presume this is to avoid people buying up entire runs and reselling on Grailed or eBay.

I haven't seen them show up much here but I'll give a nod of approval for the Michigan Boot (maybe I am biased living in the Detroit area?).

I think the shape of the Van last is a bit more versatile, and an infinitely nicer looking shape, than the TruBalance, and thankfully the Van has always fit me perfectly. If I could get the Michigan Boot in #8 or whiskey shell, I'd be replacing the Indy Boots in my collection. All that said, maybe I just like these for the same reasons I love my Ranger Mocs since these are basically the same thing in boot-form.

(Please excuse the sloppily rolled denim - I'm breaking in my first new pair of jeans in a few years and have yet to get them hemmed)

AoM will probably have the most broad selection, and no they wouldn't advertise any rare shell if they had any, it'd be luck of the draw by stopping in. It'd be worth stopping by citishoes as well.

Interesting, but makes sense. I saw a pair of new longwing boots in whiskey for $4k on ebay a few weeks ago.

I'll check out citishoes as well, thanks for the tip.

I guess I'll be stopping by some stores in NYC in a few weeks. I'll post the results (or lack thereof) of my hunt.

Ha. No, that doesn't make any sense and I misspoke. I meant to say wingtip. I must have still been baffled by the $4k asking price.

Perhaps a longwing boot should be made though. Curious if it's ever been done. I don't believe I've seen one.

In regards to a shop advertising rare shell colors...the shop's telephone rings off the wall once word gets out, which is non-productive.
It could be Alden policy, but its also common sense. None of the rare color make ups that get approved have runs bigger than 24, and in many
cases less than 12 pairs. I pre-paid 2 years ago for Ravello WTB which has still not landed. Ravello seems to be the most scarce color more recently.
However was a big winner a little more than 2 years ago and got delivered in multiple make ups. Whiskey and Cigar have seen some deliveries last year
and the recent drop of Whiskey tankers is the first of any any rare shell drops Im aware of this year. It goes in cycles, seems the shell takes a while to get dyed.
I anticipate more rare shell being available this year....but much of that will be for orders placed over that last 2-3 years.

The only way you will get on a list is to call the top retailers and ask to be added. You need to be specific as to which model you are interested in. I've had any
luck saying I'm interested in every rare color model you have coming up. I do suggest asking what they are considering submitting next and if there are open slots.
Don't hesitate to ask to eb on the list if its already filled. There are many times people ahead of you will drop off the list.

Trickers makes longwing boots, but Alden doesn't. At least I've never ever seen one either.

    Step 1. proxy for Canadians
Step 2. sell said rare shell
Step 3. pocket cash and laugh at stupid Canadians

It would be very difficult for me not to buy even more shoes if I lived anywhere near an Alden retailer.
    Nearest store: San Francisco
