John from Jack/Knife Outfitters here. Just wanted to take the time and say that all of us at Jack/Knife are excited for the event in May!

We will be set up at the event to showcase examples of our bespoke jeans, barn coats, shirts, and more. We will be also be taking measurements throughout the days of the events for all who are interested.

To any that don't know, Jack/Knife is an outfitters founded by myself and my buddy Nick. We hand-make custom clothing in the Old Garment District of San Francisco, specializing in selvedge denim jeans. We pride ourselves on constructing garments "they way they used to."

There are a lot of Friday night events. A showing of O'Mast, dinner, drinks. Gentlemenly stuff. You just won't be able to shop and flirt on Saturday.

These guys are really dedicated to their craft and to their customer. I've been asking for all sorts of non-standard stuff, and John and Nick are all... "hmmm.... I think that we can make that happen."

very kind of you. shabbos starts sundown on friday though.

also, even though i could technically stay in the hotel, pray on my own, and walk around looking sharp meeting people without transgressing shabbos, it would not be in the spirit of the day for me.

i will be there in mind if not in body (whatever the hell that means). i look forward to all the posts and pics after zero hour.

I'm a Catholic. We are all about doing things that are "technically" okay. If they are convenient. Otherwise, we just ignore the rules. What is this "spirit of the day" thing? It's a foreign concept to me.

It appears then you might be able to make the O'Mast screening, catch the party+after party on Saturday night and Sunday brunch.

The screening starts at 6:30, and I believe that it is 1 hour long. You will have exactly 15 minutes to down your drink and make it to your room. Sounds doable. Party starts at 7 and goes until the police come, or the hotel makes us stop. So... 2? I think that's closing time in California still. I'll even save you a sandwich or something. I actually have no idea what is kosher, and whats is not, tbh, so some other member of the tribe would have to show me the way. On Saturday, if you can't buy stuff, can you "prebuy" stuff? Someone tell me how this works.

lol, i dont plan on spending shabbos in a hotel room. would be off for me. i would be long gone by 6:30, getting ready and heading off to some j00 hood in san fran. i cant take part in any acquiring on shabbos. i would only be able to attend saturday night after 9:15, and sunday. which, tbh, would probably be quite nice.

as to food, ill bring granola bars, and im sure there are kosher eateries in san fran.

ill see if i can swing it. the only difficulty is getting off of work on friday to travel in, and convincing my wife to let me leave her alone with the kids for 3 days while i meet all my internet friends.

i hope i can swing it!

We'll probably have passed hors d'oeuvres. And yes, there would be some vegetarian options.

I wish I could make it. I committed to something in Boston (right, Boston) a while back and I can't break it.

I had the pleasure of hanging out with Gus this Monday in San Francisco and I got caught up on the latest events. Sounds like a spectacular event. I don't know if I can make it but I'm going to try real hard to be back here in May.

I know Gus and Fok will create a real nice event. I would highly encourage anyone who can to attend. :slayer:
