    Easy.

    Band -- Aerosmith
    Singer -- David Lee Roth

    Pathetic.

I don't think everyone posting in this thread has the same understanding of "pretentious". I can certainly understand why people might find Aerosmith annoying (although I happen to like a lot of their music). But pretentious? How so?

Another band I find pretentious is Styx. Not as much as Rush but a close second.

So any worldwide celebrity who has ever had a bio made about them is pretentious?

Elvis? Stones? Johnny Cash? Noel Coward? Irving Berlin? Mozart?

I wasn't looking to form a categorical imperative. You asked a question, I answered. IMO, anyone that has cameramen film his wife giving birth, and puts it in a movie for release, is being pretentious. You can agree or disagree; I was just giving you an answer.

this strikes me as a remarkably pretentious thing to say.

    I do agree with this.

Styx - good call. They had some good songs but..."Kilroy was Here" was a bit of a stretch. Tempted to lump in Kansas with Styx even though they're more prog-(non)rock.

For that matter, how about anyone who does up a "Rock Opera"?

Queenryche - as a concept album Operation: Mindcrime didn't suck. However, the subsequent box-set, live album, and sequel to O:M is a bit much. What, 15 years isn't enough time to write something new and original?!?

The Who - Tommy. Rock Opera and movie. Ewwwww.

Steve Reich. I do not want to listen to all of the infinite phases and iterations of a 2-second speech sample.
