Eh? I never, ever want my bare leg to show when I sit cross legged. That means OTC is mandatory for all of my socks, regardless of material. And note that I live in hot+humid Florida and wrestle with the heat constantly.

My legs never show in regular socks. Maybe your trousers are too short. Way short at that because I don't even wear mine with a break. Then again I never cross my legs when sitting anyway.

Charcoal, navy, and a slighter lighter than navy would be golden.

Sorry, I should have explained more - it's not that my pants are too short (I like some break) but non OTCs have a tendency to fall down and then bunch up on my ankles. Note that I've got larger than average calves so maybe it's specific to me.

So, for me, it's OTC or die. :slayer:

Well, put in your vote for colors. I may try to do both mid-calf and OTC.

Black? When does anybody wear black socks? (waiters and stage hands don't count)

Those would be a good start, but the other colours found in those Palantino socks would be nice as well.

I'd go with OTC due to my fat calves. :)

I thought we were talking about linen socks? Viccel is cotton; which, even as nice as it is, is still cotton.

Check out my interview with Gus from A Bit of Color while in San Francisco. I'm a big fan of his Tumblr:

Keeping SSS alive. Shining my Burgundy PAs. Trying something different: AE Merlot paste polish alternating with Saphir Mahogany. Then I'm going to alternate clear Saphir wax polish with Mahogany wax. Let's see how they turn out. WIP shots below* of prepping for the shine and then shoes post conditioning. They're currently resting for a few minutes before I brush off the conditioner.

*Pardon the mess. I'm polishing while my son is turning the living room into his own little arts and crafts area.

Since shoulder surgery I am under Dr's orders, no shoe shining. I will have some catching up to do in a few weeks.

After applying the cream. At this point, I'm not really liking the color these shoes turned to.
Finished product. I got some of the redness back, but not as much as I'd like. The Mahogany wax seems redder than the cream. Did a light coat of wax all over the shoe to get that coloring.

I'm thinking my next purchase will be some Hermes Red cream so I can mix it with Mahog for next shining.

I contemplated not even carrying black socks and am constantly surprised with how well they sell relative to our other, more interesting colors.

My favorite two black alternatives at the moment: burgendy and tartan green.

One of my early menswear mentors and style guides used to say, "When in doubt go with grey socks". In recent years the forum menswear crowd likes to be a bit more Italian and wear solid navy with everything. Yes navy works as does grey, especially heather grey. But, for me, true sartorial expression can't be summed up in one color. I need a variety of colors to suit my clothing and mood. Long live a wide selection of colors. (I do have one pair of black socks for formal occasions)
