    Could someone please explain to this SF rookie how the golden days of B&S were different?

    The main differences as I see (remember) them:

    - the forum had premium sellers (and occasional big tymers), who often liquidated their stock in a single thread: if one saw Whusardi, StephenStyle, or SpooPoker opening a thread, a lot of fun was expected;

    - The bump system (a comment took a thread up) separated the top threads from the mediocre ones;

    - brands like Marinella and Cappelli were not as widely available - and certainly not at prices one saw at B&S - so there was still a sense of adventure;

    - Affiliate Vendors were few and far between, making random sellers at B&S with nice stock stand out.

    I still browse B&S regularly, but a combination of wardrobe saturation, more diligent custom officers, and years of recession have dampened my enthusiasm for kopping.

    The problem with the old "bump system" was that it was widely abused. I'm ok with how it's handled now even if I wish the system would allow for bumping a little sooner.

    Just my CDN$0.02

    If this thread sticks to content highlighting some great buys on the B&S, it will certainy hold my interest. Big time. Heck, I just made a purchase this morning based on a heads-up posted here yesterday (D"Avenza suit for $300 are-you-freakin'-kidding-me?!?)

    If it turns into a protracted b!tchfest about the good old days versus the bad new days and how things should / shoud not be changed for the betterment of the B&S, I am sure that I will quickly tune out.

    Take from that what you will.

    The problem wasn't sellers bumping their own threads. That was far to easy to catch. It was sellers having others bump their threads for them. Either by way of a friend or trading bumps with others as a favor. It was usually obvious too, but far harder to prove.

    You bring up some good points on how the current system could be improved. I can see how those issues should be addressed too.

    I know there are many opinions on the demise of B&S and possible solutions , but perhaps that can continue to be discussed here at risk of clogging up this thread

    Easier to hype threads, encouraging more discussion. Was entertaining to actually read the forum, even if you were just window shopping. And of course, that sometimes made you more likely to buy as well.

    (also, more retailers had terrible inventory planning/stock control, so discounts were often wilder)
