Perhaps you would feel differently if you owned a pair.

Perhaps I would. As I said, the styling is not for me, so I doubt I ever will. I'm just basing my opinion on what I've read about their construction versus the construction of other shoes sold for a similar price.

You seem to be awfully sensitive about this based on your posts in this thread. If you like them and they work for you, then enjoy them.

Maybe I'm just a fan since they have served me well. I also think it's wrong to criticize Berluti construction if you have not owned a pair and are just basing your comments on other people's comments and opinions.

Check out the London store. A year ago I was there and they had several bespoke pairs in more traditional EG-type styles. Some of their models are too far out there for me but some are quite traditional and beautiful. Unfortunately there have been some posts here of her more fugly models.

artisan , just be glad you didnt put all your eggs in one bag; you have lattanzis, amesbury, santonis, etc. too many other high end shoes that make up the variety of your collection.

i for one , like the berlutis. especially your wholecuts you posted up while back. not too sure on the construction, but for me, that mainly becomes negligible because i relegate wear to shoes of this level to about once or twice a month.

Interesting. So I may not comment on the quality of an item if I have never owned said item. And, knowledge acquired through the experiences of others does not equip me to comment intelligently on a subject.

I've never experienced Monica Lewinsky but I have commented on her quality.

Actually, AF has a point, but not so all or nothing. There is something to be said for wearing an item for a length of time to get a feel for its attributes and negatives. But I can feel an Armani cloth and tell you its crappola without owning it relative to say a Dormeuil cloth.

I think everyone should have to walk a mile in my shoes, er Berlutis. [IMG]

Seriously I do feel shoes durability can be difficult to gauge by looking.

They are the Tibetas, a thick wholecut in grained leather on a rubber sole.

what is that I read RJ? A whole cut with a rubber sole? What next, a storm welt on opera pump? Or Norwegian on a galosh boot?

But great post though. Sometimes, I think it is very beneficial for us (forum members) that your are in Paris. Although, your fascination with Berluti is older than that as I recall it.

    regards
    tutee

Jesus, do we really need to have tempers flair over shoes?

I believe, in our cases, flair would be the right word to use in this forum [IMG]

Count me in as a Berluti fan. I visited their flagship store at the Rue Marbeuf in Paris last Fall and it's very impressive. I specially like their "Swann Club" upstairs complete with a bar, photos of their famous clients and dining area.

You swallowed the mystique that they're pitching. Nothing wrong with that, but just so long as you know that you aren't just buying their product for the inherent value of their product.
