Those are nice. I'm still deciding if I like them for casual wear or not. They're suede so, yes. But they're adelaide so maybe no.

I'm not sure if I'd wear these casually, just because I have other shoes that are more appropriate for casual wear. I'll most likely only wear these for biz casual, or I'd even wear these with a linen suit, that is if I had a linen suit.

Anybody have experience with the suede Ralph Lauren shoes such as the Sanderson or Slaton? (they're made by AE). Good choices or should I look elsewhere?

I like having shoes i know i will have for +20 years, I love suede but will it really last that long? I treat my shoes well but it's very difficult to 'nourish' suede

Well, far from 20+ years, but my oldest suede shoes are eight years and look every bit as good as my calf shoes of similar age.

i think the suede itself will last very long... especially the hardy waxed suede. it's the lining that i'm worried about.

What do you consider "proper care" for suede?

I can't stand the smell of the spray on suede cleaners, and they typically contain mineral oil and other hydrocarbons that I don't like to put in my leather. And, although I make my own shoe polish, I do not have a product for suede. I have tried shampoo with conditioning coconut oil (American Crew Shampoo) with some success however.

How do other members care for their suede?

i use something called 'Tarrago nano protector' that i'm confident will protect my suede shoes from damage. After i apply the protector i can literally put my shoes under a tap on full power and the water will literally be deflected off. So im confident i can prevent my shoes from being damaged. But it is that caring for the leather aspect that worries me. With my other shoes i use Saphir renouvateur, and high quality creams to keep the leather in good condition, but with suede i think it's a different story.

I bought some suede chukkas from Duckers of Oxford in 1980, and how to look after the suede was one of my questions. Mr Ducker advised me to clean them occasionally under warm water, using a wire brush and mild detergent, wetting the shoes thoroughly and them allowing them to dry slowly, stuffed with newspaper.

This regime struck me as rather harsh but it worked perfectly well in terms of cleaning the suede (a very thick, supple, honey-coloured suede) and appeared to have no ill-effects. I no longer have the chukkas, but they lasted a long time.

I use Saphir products on all my shoes, whether its suede, calf or cordovan. Yes, its a little more expensive but its much better for your shoes and does a better job than other products.
