suede shoes - post 'em here!

Provided I take proper care of a pair of Alden suede long wings, is the leather durable enough to allow the shoes to go through Alden's restoration program or will they be too junked up so as not to make restoration worthwhile?

I knew shell certainly is, but I'd rather buy a less expensive pair of suede shoes if I can't have them resoled 1-2 times.

Just got these snuff suede Alden snuff suede unlined PTB shoes. I used my Alden suede brush for the first time and fibers started coming off from all over the shoe. Is that normal for a new suede shoe?

Try brushing them a little bit lighter next time. Regardless, some fibers will be displaced when brushing regardless of pressure. It looks like the nap may not be brushed all the same direction. The roughness will be less apparent when brushed in the same direction.

Burn the fibers with a lighter, it's an easy job and it's part of the regular maintenance of suede leather.

I bought these Captoe Suede Bluchers on sale at BrookBrothers. They're actually made by Alden and shaped over their Snap Last. I find them to be extremely comfortable.

I mostly play outdoor, and need a good pair of shoes that won't get torn up on pavement.
I'm a point guard first, shooting guard second. I've modeled my game around Iverson's since 98 or so, but I don't hesitate to pass. What I mean is that I use my speed/quickness/explosiveness to my advantage, and I have great handles, so I look to beat people off the dribble to create scoring/playmaking opportunities. If it helps, I'm from Boston area and Rajon Rondo is my favorite PG currently, so you know I'm not selfish running the point.

The cheap "cross-training" shoes I'm wearing now have holes on the outside from changing directions too fast. If I explode to my right, then plant my right foot to explode to my left, it puts a ton of stress on the right side of my right shoe. The cloth sided "cross-training" shoes can't handle that type of stress, and have holes in them. Plus these cross-trainers are too low-cut, they don't give me proper ankle support. I sprained my right ankle 3x from April till August.

Shampoo. There's suede shampoo from Saphir or LCA, but I've been told you can use regular mild shampoo as well. There's a "pictorial" in this thread somewhere (with Loake Kempton chukka's).

gc98: I don't know what type of brush you use, but I use a regular shoe brush to get rid of dust and dry dirt, and to get the nap up. Works better for me than dedicated suede brushes.

I just got a pair of tan plain toe suede bluchers like gc98's above. Thinking about pairing them with a pair of chinos. Socks or no socks? If so, what color? Also, would they work with shorts? Thanks!

Goat suede are buttery soft, but apparently very thin. So there is a layer of backing (pigskin) sandwitched between the suede and the lining.
