Looks great. How did you get the black mottled look?

Finger painting with leather dye. Thomas (maitre patineur at Corthay at the time, now G&G) taught me some tricks and tips and the guys from Bontoni gave me some pointers too during a trunk show. Both were very helpfull.

Do you use gloves? I was stuck with dark brown middle- and forefingers for three days after my last dyeing-round without gloves; I studied at home until it went away.

Somehow I feel using gloves makes the painting experience 'fake'.
    Now I have dirty fingernails.

1930's - Early 1940's Crosby Square. Closed channel sole & 100% handlasted & handsewn. ALSO, a dead ringer for the G&G TG 73 (Classic Square) last. Classic is classic.

Well, what kind of dye do you use? I used Fiebing's spirit-based dye, not oil-based.

One more go with vintage shoes: Florsheim's old long wings in buffalo leather with double leather soles, fibre insole, nylon heels, linen vamp lining, small but round toe, 360-welt. Too bad about those non-wood grain soles and unfinished make on the quarters and fibre sole, not many of the vintage Florsies I've handled have had these shoddy details. Maybe Isshi or meister can chime in about them. Not really visible from my 6'1'' height but they are still there. SF has a tendency to cause and uphold OCD.

I just posted the how-to on my blog: http://jacobbockelmann.com/post/78728147173/in-an-earlier-post-i-stated-that-not-all-bad

Dyeing suede is easy and I encourage you to give a shot.
