I believe the 348 is actually the bench grade (machine manufactured) version of the 337 which means it is longer but narrower than the 341.

Are you saying that the 337 and 348 are essentially the same last? I am pretty certain this is not the case.

I believe youll find the 348 maybe the bench grade version of the 358 handgrade ??? both being longer and narrower than the 341.

AE shoes don't go as expensive as $500. Why don't you try them during their Thanksgiving sale, or try the AE Outlet during that time. You can get some nice shoes for under $200. Good luck to you.

Regarding the C&J lasts. Burton you are correct that the 348 is longer and sleeker than the 341. But the in the handgrades the 358 appears to be the equivalent to the benchgrade's 348 as best I can tell.

Here's a link to the CJ catalog which should answer all the questions except the question regarding the RL Lindrick's last. There is a thread for the Lindricks and their brethren. I bet the last information is on that thread somewhere.

Isshi, you're officially my enemy now ;)

I had those Stetson crocs in my sight for some time on eBay, but the berk of a seller was not so willing to add more pics or info on them. I gave up -- only to see that they were indeed beauts and now in your hairy hands. Grrr.

Guys here is another SF thread that may help: http://www.styleforum.net/t/165722/crockett-and-jones-last-358#post_2950425

I could be wrong, but I do not believe the 358 last, which I wear, is the same as the 348. I cannot wear the 337 but can wear both the 341 and 358. I have stayed away from the 348 because I had been told it is the same as the 337. This would be a good time to be wrong :)

Ebay is much like a Casino, my friend. It's a crapshoot as to what will actually arrive regardless of pics & info (or more likely, lack thereof). For Stetsons, I figured i'd take that risk. Looks like that seller had raided some kind of Stetson Shangri La. I raided the "reasonable sizes" (ie: C & D widths)...

only the right pair is a spade sole. The left is perfect, even by today's standards (I'd personally prefer the spades, though).

In fact, I'd venture to guess that Fritzl would say they are even better than the Dover, considering the stitch on the blucher leather seems to be the same as the stitch down the vamp... which has been one of his pet-peeves regarding the Dover and it's many stitch types.

Another "Pre-Dover" by Florsheim circa mid 1950's. They were made to be a bad weather shoe, and have served me very well as one. Note the Double v-cleat.

Even though MSRP can only mean so much, to put things in perspective: Brooks Brothers ad in 1956 shows the price of their Brooks English shoes (then produced exclusively by Edward Green) to be "from $20".
