    Hello there,

I was looking for some casual shoes to wear with chinos (and jeans) and came across these split-toe Heschung derbies while visiting a flea market. They were in a horrible condition: mud-covered with an extremely dry wrinkly leather. No wonder the seller was just giving the shoes away.

Two hours later with some SAPHIR products:

You know, I think you might be under the impression that this thread is about damaged shoes, when the "shoe damage" in the thread title is referring to the money spent on new shoes. This thread is just to show off new shoe purchases.

That said, that's just what happens with shell and there's not really anything I know of that you can do about it. Most people consider that part of shell's charm.

Mea culpa! I totally misunderstood the title. My apologies. Will find the correct thread. Thank you very much for clarifying.

Thank you! Yes these were the original to my Bestetti's, had him make a version of this design.

First (of many) purchases from Zonkey Boot. Wonderful service and such a good product.

So comfortable - can't wait to get some wear in these.

New Cheaney Avon shoes. I noticed on one shoe the eyelets are not aligned properly which I think is sloppy. As you can see the facing of one shoe is attached differently onto the vamp than on the other shoe (stitched closer to the wing tip), causing the misalignment.

According to Cheaney this is within tolerance. In my opinion this is not something that can be expected of shoes in this price range. What do you think?

The title really is misleading. I had thought, for a long time, that this thread was about 'shoe damage' and not about 'damage to wallets.'

Cover the suede near the buckles with masking tape for protection and polish the buckles with fine steel wire.

mask the suede and use any brash or silver polish paste and rub with a cloth !!(still wire cable will leave marks on the bucklet)

I've used the wrong term: correct it is 'steel wool' or 'wire wool'.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel_wool

In a fine grade it is far less abrasive than any semi-liquid polish which will incorporate some abrasive agent (usually ground minerals).

The best tool to polish that buckle would be a brass wire brush.

They're available in different grades, from very soft to stiff, check ebay.
I have two of them, one in brass and one in steel and I've used them to clean old blazer buttons with good success.

PS you could also use a suede brass brush like this one:

Yes, that writing is Cheaney, Last is their 175

They always made longwings on this last, I agree that it is similar to C&J 325.

Which is the brand of these shoes?
