If one can spend £1000 in Hong Kong, it is the best place to buy classic men's clothing.

Like most large Asian cities, Hong Kong can be a great place to buy a good suit at a value for money price. However, as noted above you still have to spend some decent money. If you buy a cheap suit then that's exactly what you will get just a little bit cheaper than a cheap suit in the USA.

Too many of the so called tailor ships in Asian cities are anything but. All they are is a front for the big Asian suit factories who mass produce poor quality cheap fused suits by the thousands every month. The salesman (not a tailor) takes your order and sends it off to the factory who knocks up your suit in a couple of hours. Looks OK when you get it but starts to show the sign of falling apart very quickly when you get home. This also relates to far too many online suit sites as well.

However, if you do your research there are good tailors in any city and good online tailoring services as well. Naturally Styleforum is a great resource for research.

Suits made in Hong Kong will look good only in Hong Kong.

You would be better served by a local tailor or department store. If you post the name of the city/town you live in, SF members willbe only too happy to recommend their local favorites.

As preposterous a statement as I've seen on this forum. Utter balderdash. A good Hong Kong suit is as good as any you'll find anywhere. However, it won't be cheap. I believe, crownvp, that if you were to post your price range we would be better able to advise you.

Well a good Hong Kong Bespoke suit is much cheaper than anywhere in the world (pretty much in the big cities).

Sorry but that's not correct at all. In fact, although still cheaper than most western cities, Hong Kong is actually one of the most expensive places in Asia to buy a good suit. Anything decent will cost $1,500 and up.

People who say they bough a good suit in Hong Kong for $500 have simply bought a cheap factory made suit from one of the tourist traps. While they may have been shown some impressive fabric books the actual fabric used is some cheap generic rubbish

True. There are some great tailors in Hong Kong with the history of some of the larger fashion houses dating back more than a hundred years. Retail shopping space in Hong Kong is among the dearest in the world which has pushed up the price of goods and accordingly good tailoring is not as cheap as it may have been many years ago.

While it remains a great place to get a high quality suit at a value for money price the price differential is nowhere as large as most people expect
