Uggh... the Jon Corzine look. I really can't stand v-necks with a tie, (actually, I really just don't tend to like v-necks.)

A button up vest, on the other hand, can be a great look. And while I don't tend to do the crewneck with a tie, there's nothing wrong with that.

Anyone who wears a crew-neck sweater with a tie is a fucking idiot.

Agnelli was an idiot? Of course.

How about some thermals? Not as warm perhaps, but it's also out of sight.

With light weight fabrics it looks awful. With heavy tweeds it looks fine.

But, if it is zero outside and you need to go out, wear whatever keeps you warm.

When wearing a sweater under a suit or sport jacket, are there any "rules" regarding sleeve length?

Great point, I couldn't agree more. I think sweaters with flannel and tweed suits look good, but not with lighter fabrics.

I don't know if its a rule, but I like to still see some shirt cuff. However, I also like having the sweater sleeve be slightly longer than the jacket of my suit or sportcoat so you can see the sweater sleeve as well.

^ Yes, but I don't think Doc is wearing a "business suit."

Here's Mattypoo doing it with his incomparable elán, really putting the hurt on smalltimers and making them beg for mercy:

Manton would say that the Poo should have left the bottom button undone, but on a straight bottom, I forgive iammatt's lèse majestÃ[IMG] (particularly since I oft do the same myself, which of course, makes it okay.)

A sweater vest/sleeveless jumper is nothing controversial with an odd jacket. With a suit, it can be the thrill of victory or the agony of defeat.

    Stunning.

As for me, I'm rather fond of sweaters under jackets as long as it's not a true business suit. Wear it with odd trou and sport coats, and feel free to wear it with a suit as long as it's not to the office.
