^what's typical this winter? I live in Chicago and I love them and wear them. I wouldn't if I lived in Miami.

Nothing's typical this winter. While you've had an arctic vortex, we had summer-like weather in the Bay Area until last week. And even in a typical rainy winter, we never any temps approaching Chicago. But every office is basically 68° (mine's a little warmer on sunny days because of the exposure). I was wondering whether people who've tried those socks have found they're feet overly warm once inside.

I got that. My response wasn't meant as flip. I rarely wear cotton socks--unless it is 85 degrees or higher. I prefer OTC wool socks and it is the outside temp which changes what I wear. In a temp controlled environment, I don't see how they can be too warm. They are only about double the std Marcoliani thickness. Wool wears pretty cool for me and is much better at wicking. The socks are great, and fantastic for walking the Miracle mile, but I don't necessarily see the benefit of them in the Bay Area--except for strolls around Half Moon Bay. I am huge fan of the std Marcoliani wool OTC socks, which I believe are one of life's great pleasures--and certainly a guilty pleasure of mine.

No offense take. I probably could have posed the question in way that provided more insight about what I wanted to know. I have wool socks from Pantherella and cotton from Marcoliani. I too prefer wool and find that it generally wears cool enough for the office. Not knowing how much thicker the boot socks are, I wasn't sure whether that would continue to be the case. Your response helps. Would you say that they're about as thick as an athletic sock?

On the tangential subject of whether one would need them in the Bay Area: not for the weather. My left foot is somewhat smaller than my right, making some left shoes a little looser than the right. Sometimes I'd rather use a sock to get a snugger fit than a pad, so I thought the boot socks might work.
