I was wondering, is there certain etiquette on wearing multiple rings on a hand? More specifically, can you wear a ring on the thumb by itself or do there have to be other rings worn on the hand as well?

A wedding ring, if you must. That is all.

dont wear anymore then a ring someones given you. A huge great ring on every finger looks tacky.

If you feel like looking like a russian mobster with two rings on every finger, do it.

basically. if you are trying to look western, or "trad", wear a wedding ring, maybe a signet or possibly a class ring.

if that isn't important to you, wear what ever you like. I don't wear rings, but I think that the look of wearing a thumb ring can be cool on young men. and a lot of indians wear multiple gem rings on different fingers, it is perfectly acceptable to them.

I agree. Maybe I'm too old school, but I think more than a wedding band is pushing it. I also think earrings and visible tattoos are pushing it too, so I'm probably more conservative than most.

Can you wear a thumb ring by itself? I am still under 25 years old, so I thought it looked neat.

What do you mean "can you". You can wear whatever you want. You're over-thinking this, people aren't sitting around chatting about why you have a thumb ring on.

I wear my grandmothers diamond in a men's setting on my right hand. It's a very classy setting, and the diamond ain't too shabby either- although I probably only wear it once or twice a week.

yes you can. will it look a little strange to middle aged anglo saxons like myself, sure. it is better than those huge hoops the guy who makes my coffee wears in his ear? definatly.

Yeah exactly, basically you follow western mainstream convention or it's free for all. I haven't worn jewellery in a while (it goes by phases) but I just put on what I like and that's it.

Just keep them off the pinky.

The pinky is a fine place for a ring.

I never thought about the style implications, but i've worn a thin silver band on my pinky finger for almost a decade...I get both compliments and questions as to why i have it. I just like it.

The only men who can wear a pinky ring and not look like a guido are engineers. When I see a guy with a pinky ring I just roll my eyes and think, "Oh, I see".

I think one ring per hand. Wedding ring + one other is the max.

Brits (and many other Europeans) of the very non-guido type typically wear signet rings on their pinkies.

    ^ why engineers?
Engineers (at least in Canada) get an Iron Ring when they graduate. It's worn on the pinky finger of your working hand.

I enjoy wearing multiple gold rings like Sammy Davis Jr., or Renaissance popes.
