^^ I like the soles a lot on those made for J Crew Rangers. Don't care for the leather color as much as amber harness though. Still, great looking boots!!

Yes the sole and leather look like the sole and leather from the Gentleman Traveler line. A little more dressy!

Already posted this in the red wing thread, but might as well ask here too being the dedicated iron ranger thread and all :tounge:

Anyone pick up a pair of 8116 charcoal iron rangers? Thoughts?

I love my 8111's and have been considering picking up a pair of 8114's, but these have caught my eye. Liking how it's already somewhat distressed/rugged instead of the smoother black leather.

That bb version is exactly what I am looking for. Anyone go true of these? Want to be able to wear them with thick socks

I'd go .5 size down to wear with thick socks.

That said these are amazing boots that are impossible to wear because the last is so messed up.
I'm as normal a 11D as you'll find (or so shoe salesmen have told me), size 10 too tight, size 10.5 a bit too loose and the narrow mid-foot makes even a normal walker like me pronate.
    Really frustrating boot.

These look pretty nice! Wonder what the leather is. Almost looks lime CXL, though I don't think RW uses it. Not sure though..

I'm finding that I probably need a bit of pronation support in these as they don't give much and the narrow midpart makes it pretty noticeable to the eye when wearing them. Anyone else with the same problem with suggestions for insoles? I don't think there's room for a full size sport type insole.

And regarding care of the boots, would it be enough to clean the leather with a good brush and apply some saphire renovateur every other month or are additional products recommended?

Are the Iron Rangers a better option than Frye boots?

Yes, if they fit you well. Frye's feel pretty cheap to me these days. If the IR fits you, it's a great looking boot.

I think you'll find that they run long and very narrow. The amber harness comes in what they call a "EE" width, which is basically equal to a D in my experience. So if the standard fit is narrow see if you can find a EE. Or try Zappos, which has free shipping and returns (I tried on about 5 pairs of IRs from Zappos!) Unfortunately the EE is not available in black, which I think is a very cool boot for the IRs. Good luck.

And if you don't like the IRs, you may want to check out White's Boots. More expensive, but a variety of lasts and widths to get it right. The Bounty Hunter with a cap toe looks a lot like Iron Rangers. But better quality and with very nice arch support.

Here are my black Bounty Hunters for comparison:
