Ok guys, first post here. I have just recently started upgrading my wardrobe from what I would call "just out of college" to "young professional". I would like to purchase a few Hermes ties, but simply can't swing retail right now. So..I have been doing some searching on Ebay and recently purchased the tie featured in the link below. I wish I had found this forum before, but purchased the tie before doing too much research.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...07837&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_5681wt_1185

The question is, did I purchase a fake? The seller seems to have good feedback, but I am having trouble reconciling this tie with a lot of the "spot a fake" guides online.

I would appreciate any help! Thanks!

Fake bro. I'm going to go out on a limb too and when the tie is coming from Asia and the seller has dubious feedback you should be careful.

File a "not as described" claim and ebay will give you your money back.

I just went through this for some fake software (long story), he seller pretended to be in NY but was actually in China, and the seller was "no longer registered" by the time the box arrived but even still they paid up.

i have a lot of problems with ebay policies but their buyer protection plan does work.

Don't buy luxury brands from china, thailand, ukraine, etc until or unless you know exactly what you're doing.

    That tie is very fake.

EDIT: Though some of that seller's other Hermes ties look almost real (which is not to say I have any faith in their authenticity). I'm glad you picked the one with the obvious BS tags.

Super fake. On real Hermes ties, the logo is clearly detailed and not fuzzy like the one in your picture. Also every Hermes tie has a model number.

Yeh that's a knock-off. Comes from Bangkok, vendor loves using the 'authentic' word, also this vendor seems to have a lot of Hermes ties, along with much Bulgari, Armani, Lanvin, Dunhill, etc.

:teach: Hermes comes from France, not Thailand.

    Fake.
How's even possible that this guy has 1482 (100%) positive feedback? Can't eBay do anything about it? Or Hermès? It looks like he's been selling these ties for years.

Shills, organised crime ring no doubt. Proceeds from these auctions probably goes towards drugs trafficking or something.

I don't think Ebay really cares, they get their commission.

Good luck to that, this is China and SE Asia.

    Yup.

...and this is why we don't buy a Rolex watch through Ebay.

Possible bait n switch by using false screen names to bid on his own goods to increase his positive feedback. L'ebay is a sham right now. Buyer beware!

    Very fake, I'm afraid.

If you'd like to avoid paying retial for Hermes ties, there are several sellers here who could cut you a great deal--I'd recommend SpooPoker, to begin!

My recommendation is to use SF for buying Hermes ties. There usually is someone selling a few fairs. I have one that I can't part with. I'm partial to LV ties for some reason, as I love the little diamond pattern. :)

+1. I dated a girl for a bit that worked there and she loaded me up. They have some really cool designs and I am very pleased with the quality. That said, Hermes is making the kop list soon.

    UPDATE...

I sent the guy an email letting him know that I would be asking for a refund once I got the tie. This was his response:

I guarantee that this is 100% authentic Hermes tie purchased years ago from the authorized Hermes store. I just found that I forgot to provide you picture #5 showing the lining of this tie. You can now see the picture 5 from this link (http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/zz358/luxury_pmwon/2011_Week30/Hermes_HVYSTCT5.jpg
). This tie is special because it was made from a combination of silk and cotton. As you can see the label on the back of the tie is not like any other heavy silk Hermes ties or printed silk ties. Please visit these 2 links for more detail.

There are other materials that Hermes use in making their ties; cotton, linen, or leather. I've taken 15 pictures from the Hermes catalog to provide you more details about other ties that Hermes has in their stores.

....to http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/zz358/luxury_pmwon/Sample_from_Book/Hermes15.jpg (Please change the number from 1 to 15 as I've limited space here)

There is a similar design to the tie you bought from me showing in the pictures. I hope after you see the pictures, you will be more confident that it's real as stated. Also, I would recommend you visit Hermes store nearby once you receive it.

However, if you are not comfortable keeping the tie, you can send it back for full refund as I promised satisfaction guaranteed. Further questions, please let me know.

    Regards,

You better get your money back from the seller. He thinks your naive about the tie. The Hermes logo patch on the L'ebay tie looks like it was sewn onto the silk. You can see the crooked edges. Real Hermes ties have the logo printed into the silk along with the patterns of the ties.

The most important thing you overlooked is the model/style number on the tie. Ask the seller what is the model/style number is on your tie? I would start a Paypal resolution before he replies.

Moral of the story is to do your due diligence before making purchases.

I'm not an Hermes expert but I think you MIGHT end up owing this guy an apology so don't go ballistic just yet.

I quickly looked at his current listings and nothing about the Hermes, Ferragamo, Gucci, Armani, Fendi, and Zegna ties rings an alarm. I have one or two of each and they look fairly similar. He's selling almost all used ties at opening bids of mostly $19.99 to $24.99. I'm having a hard time imagining a counterfeiter bothering with that.

The Hermes logo looked odd to me because it was so far down on the narrow blade but the Hermes book you linked shows that some of their ties have it there. And the tie on the 9th sample page looks very similar to yours.

I suggest taking it to an Hermes boutique. That logo sure is sloppy looking though...
