How do you guys deal with missed attempts? I tried and failed at 585 last week on deadlifts. Would have been about a 20 lb. PR. I'm hoping to hit that in my next competition next month though. Got some motivation now.

I aim to never miss any lifts in training, but I also have a coach who manages all my sets, reps and weights for me so that it doesn't happen.
That said, I don't think its good to miss any lift in training if you're training for a strength sport, because then you were testing your strength and not building it.

Why were you testing your max one month out from competition? Sounds pretty stupid, tbh. The heaviest I go is to do my openers one week out. Also, how are you going to add 20 pounds to a lift in one month?

I normally don't test maxes in the gym either. I hit 562 in my last meet (end of May), and have been doing 5/3/1 as my training program. I got 7 with 495 for my 1+ which was awesome. I think ego got the best of me though since I really wanted to hit 6 plates, so after my light sets on the deload week I worked up to it. Felt good off the floor, just didn't have it in me I guess. I'll run one my cycle of 5/3/1 before the meet in mid August.

I usually blame recovery, that im not sleeping or eating enough if I miss a weight. Mostly because my programming has always been on point.

My back is pissed at me. Probably from trying to leg press on Tuesday.

Welp I guess that's that. Going to take it a bit easy for the next week or two and try working a few swimming sessions into the weeks workouts from here on out.

I think I'm reaching the cap of how big I should get slash the weight of the dbs I should be playing is probably nearing it's max so it's time to start mixing things up.

    Hell, maybe even yoga.

That feel when you buy yogurt on sale thinking it has 29g of protein per serving and realize that you were tired and it was the sugar. 9g :(

Guess ill need to supplement with a bit more powder this week.

I failed a squat for the first time Saturday. Was feeling confident as I had a real nice session the week before. Hit 5x4x295 then... tried 5x4x305, failed on the 2nd rep of the 2nd set. I slept fine, felt fine... I just wasn't focused, I think. I didn't have my headphones. Didn't die so I just had to laugh about it. Killed an upper back workout the next day

For anyone that started doing some yoga or pilates etc, how hard was the transition? I think I'm going to add in one or both of those for some flexibility work. My gym has classes that are open to me, so might as well go for it.

Buy an exoskeleton, 'run' the event in that, then donate it to a wounded veteran.

    (expense it to your firm)
