    We have older wood with character downstairs and just put in some snazzy new carpeting upstairs.

    i prefer warm and soft stuff on bedroom floors and stairs (for safety with little ones).

    Dysons are even better for allergies, as you empty all of the contents out in to the air when you empty it.
