never been to east bay, but in general lol @ affluent white people calling areas of cities "ghetto." most of the time they're just being racist fucks.

Damn since we are all so white

Have you seen the amount of time invested by Teach for America in the East Bay?

And what do you call a "white" guy living in the LA ghetto?

Discussion isn't gonna make sense since most people just don't understand how ridiculous prices are in the Bay

The only thing crazier than the recent jump in home prices are the rent prices, lmao. I don't even want to throw out numbers b/c no one will believe it.

I don't even know what this is supposed to mean.

Live a "why not" life. You wanna be a lawyer, why not. Go be a lawyer.

This disturbs me. It leads me to think that one day you'll get your own TV special on TLC about man who makes love to his clothes.

    two ways -

start in student/academic affairs, ie: housing, advising, admissions, graduation processing. most of these jobs require an MA though, some specific MAs like counseling or high ed.

work as an academic professor and transition into leadership roles.

i'm going the former route, although i do need to get a phd because management-level positions require a phd. it doesn't matter what it's in, you just need the 3 words after your name to be taken seriously.

i haven't been officially accepted into my phd yet, but im taking classes and will be applying in february - i missed the cycle last year. how it works is that i'll be doing it part time. as part of my benefits i get 2 classes a semester free, and as the phd is only 2 years of course work beyond a masters, it only adds an extra semester if i take courses over the summer. it's hard though - i work 9 to 5 and then go to class at night.

It's actually not an incorrect observation, regardless of how sexist and racist it sounds (and how unapologetically un-PC he was). It's a product of the rise of consumerism + preexisting Asian cultural norms.

Okay, this is utter nonsense or at least deserves some qualification. Where do you mean? West Oakland? East Oakland?

How about the Berkeley Hills? Walnut Creek? Or for that matter how about Bayview (technically SF)? Or SOMA ten years ago? Walked around Western Addition lately?

Look, I've lived all over the Bay Area for about 13 years, including stints in San Francisco, all over the city. Like most big urban areas in the world, there are a mix of socioeconomic circumstances in any given urban area. The East Bay has many thriving communities with good schools just as San Francisco has many neighborhoods where people are struggling, crime is high, and schools rate poorly.

yeah, it's clearly a very unpopular opinion, but how many of you who are white knighting have actually seen how rampant it is in asia?

I'm currently back in Beijing for a visit and after being back for just a couple of weeks so far, I can't help but marvel at the contrast of values and lifestyle, and I must agree with nahneun. The general population recognizes it as a norm and unashamedly so.

Umm, yeah... my last girlfriend was offered a paid position as a wife by some douchenozzle when she was visiting China. If you haven't been there you just don't know, and while I do agree Finn's remark was un-PC and sounded bad, there is more than a hint of truth there.
