That's a good call. My dad saw him around then. He said that he completely destroyed his piano onstage - just smashed it into pieces by the end of the show.

Three come to mind almost instantly:

Muddy Waters--listen to his live albums. You can feel the electricity through the speakers.

Frank Sinatra--Well, it's Frank. What more to say.

Ella Fitzgerald--

Good choices. Ella was great, even though I only saw her late in life when she was physically limited and could perform only a few songs.

Obviously, it's not going to be the same as it would have been back in the day. On the other hand, Iggy has always struck me as a guy who loves performing and has a great deal of commitment and artistic integrity -- definitely not just someone who'll be chugging through the greatest hits catalog to make a buck. I think it'd be a fun show.

I wish I could see: Queen with Freddie, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Fritz Kreisler playing , Rahmaninov playing, Paganini, Oystrah, Jerry Lee Lewis.

I hope I will see: David Bowie, Prince, Tom Waits.

I am so lucky I saw: Horowitz, Jeff Buckley.

another letdown was Chuck Berry about 6 years ago....again, half tempo and just a sad reflection of how great he used to be.

on the other hand, I've seen Bill Haley's Original Comets (his band in mid 50s) and these geezers are pushing 80s-90s and they rock the house like a band in their teens. They play fast, hard, and have amazing stage presence. so it can be done.

Toscanini conducting. Sure, I’ve seen video recordings, but to see him live, with all that fire and contempt for the orchestra, roaring them into perfect and sublime acquiescence of musical glory would be a sight to behold.
